Notes

  • Goalkeepers look fairly straightforward this week, in part due to a lack of stand-out options. I’ll be taking Kristijan Kahlina as my bench goalkeeper with Roman Bürki as my late-game fallback. Although you could also consider Carlos Coronel from the early games.
  • In defence, I like Charlotte and St Louis City’s clean sheet chances enough to pair Kahlina with Adilson Malanda and Tim Parker, respectively.
  • I’m also considering Andrew Privett as part of a Charlotte defence triple stack, but have Sean Nealis for now as the New York Red Bulls should also fare well at home to Chicago.
  • My other defender (aside from a Nashville scrub, who I have funds to upgrade if needed) will be Brooks Lennon. Lennon has scored at least five Fantasy points every week since Round 3 – despite only recording two clean sheets in that time. He is rapidly approaching must-own status based on his offensive stats and bonus point generation.
  • Midfield choices were also relatively easy for me this week. Cristian Espinoza, Evander Emil Forsberg, Ryan Gauld and Santi Rodríguez all have the fixtures and Fantasy form to do well. Thiago Almada and a revived (?) Carles Gil are in my thoughts as alternatives. In my opinion, the forward position is where we’re likely to see most variety this week – I’ve gone for Willy Agada, Chicho Arango and Christian Benteke as my three forwards. However, the likes of Denis Bouanga, João Klauss, Jonathan Rodríguez, Dante Vanzeir and Brian White are also viable this week.
  • Lionel Messi is likely to make his way into my line-up should he start against the leaky Sporting Kansas City back line.
  • Captaincy could also be a conundrum this week, with several of the bonus point-generating midfielders and forwards worthy of consideration. At the moment, I have it on Santi Rodríguez but may pivot to Espinoza or Arango.

Notes

  • CS chances this week are awful, so I am fully committing to a Charlotte bench play and praying to the FMLS gods that it works out like Vancouver and Seattle did last weekend.
  • Toronto are still miserable in the attack without Insigne so here’s hoping.
  • New York Red Bull also have an okay chance at a CS so I’m going Nealis in my starting XI. Lennon and Totland both are players I’m hoping I can scrub because I don’t feel good about either of those games.
  • My midfield theme this week is favourable home matchups. With New England’s defensive struggles and midweek travel, LAG and Chicago’s terrible defence, and LAFC and Colorado’s away form.
  • Forsberg, Santi, Espinoza, Evander and Gauld were the best options for me.
  • Forwards are tough this week. I like Bouanga, even though he is traveling, because of how many chances Portland likes to give up. Chicho, who I also currently have the armband on, is hosting a Columbus team who just went 120 minutes in Mexico against a tough Tigres side.
  • The third forward spot is giving me trouble. I like Benteike, Vanzier, or Pulido/Agada. That decision will depend on line-ups for me. But, right now I have Benteke who, again, has a favourable home matchup against a team who struggles on the road.

Notes

  • DEF: Brooks Lennon (ATL; 8.9): Brooks Lennon has 18 points in the last two games. Considering Lennon serves up the occasional set piece, he can rack up both attacking and defensive points if the stars align.
  • MID: Evander (POR:10.5M); Evander is high on shots in the last couple of games and has a decent matchup. He is a given in my line-up after five games with three goals and 16 bonus points.
  • FOR: Messi (MIA; 11.5M); As long as he’s in the starting line-up on Sunday, it would be a bold move to fade him with his track record. I can expect him to continue to be the focal point of the Miami attack vs SKC.

Notes

  • Roldan and Bouganga were stars of Round 7 and they stick around this week.
  • Team value is good but I might need to spread a little around.
  • I will be watching for Messi news and line-ups.
  • I like CLTFC defence at home this week and hope I can scrub Guzan and upgrade Brennan if needed.
  • Atlanta Philly should be a prime matchup for Sunday.
  • Puig’s spot is one I will look at other options as well since they are on the road.

Notes

  • In goal, my primary goalkeeper this round is Charlotte’s Kahlina who faces a Toronto side having shipped seven goals in their last two games, scoring only once. My fallback will be St.Louis’ Roman Bürki who faces Austin at home in the last game of the round.
  • In defence, I have Kahlina with Privett and Bürki with Tim Parker.
  • I have also included NYRB duo John Tolkin and Dylan Nealis with the latter potentially changing to Sean Nealis due to his bonus points production.
  • My last defender is Brooks Lennon who’s scored 31 points at home thus far courtesy of three assists and two clean sheets.
  • Santi Rodriguez was a fairly easy inclusion this week having scored in all of his home matches this season. He’s up against a struggling Revs side this weekend so I like his chances of continuing that streak.
  • Saba Lobjanidze, Christian Espinoza and Ryan Gauld are all currently in my team as they all have favourable home matchups on paper.
  • My final midfielder is Evander who continued his fine run of points with a goal and a couple of bonus points against SKC last round.
  • Up front, Chicho Arango makes my team for the first time this season after scoring four goals in his last two outings. Another striker in fine form is Dante Vanzeir who has produced one goal and six assists so far this season. He should have a good chance of more returns at home to Chicago.
  • My final striker is Denis Bouanga who has started to pick up some form with 3 goals and 1 assist in his last three games.
