Notes

  • Matt Freese makes the front end of my ‘keeperoo again this week. I don’t like the SGW fallbacks after NYCFC’s second game, so will likely pivot to Yohei Takaoka on the back end should Freese fail to keep a clean sheet in his first game.
  • In defence, Jordi Alba and a Vancouver defender – likely Ali Ahmed – are locks for me among the DGW teams.
  • I have two offensive players from NYCFC in addition to Freese and don’t like Portland’s clean sheet chances across their two games, so the remainder of my defenders are SGW picks as things stand.
  • In midfield, Thomas Müller is a lock if he starts Vancouver’s first game. However, the fact he didn’t travel last weekend makes me think he may not be fit in time for Wednesday evening, in which case I will likely replace him.
  • Rodrigo De Paul is my other DGW lock in midfield. I also have Hannes Wolf on my bench but that might be point chasing from the last round.
  • My remaining midfield spots are filled by SGW players, with Evander and Hany Mukhtar my preferred picks based on matchup, form and roster structure.
  • It goes without saying that Lionel Messi will be my captain again this week. Alonso Martínez and the seemingly unstoppable Son Heung-min also make my forward line, although I am considering dropping Martínez for one of Denis Bouanga or the returning Luis Suárez.
  • Justin Haak would come into defence should I go ahead with that move.

Notes

  • I like many of the SGW players this week, but for DGW players De Paul, Berhalter, Ocampo, Wolf, Alba, and Messi all feel like the best bets.
  • Takaoka is my first keeper on the bench because I like his first matchup the most. If Vancouver concedes against Portland, he will be easy to pivot off of.
  • San Diego have a great matchup this week too which is why I am on Dreyer, McNair, and CJ as SGW fallbacks. Wagner also has the potential to pop against an awful DCU and Evander is hard to fade in general.
  • Bouanga and Son have been on such a tear recently it is hard to not have them both in your team. If I were to fade one, it would be for A. Martinez or maybe even Chucky.

Notes

  • VAN, NYC and MIA have DGWs this week. What will Messi’s status be?
  • I’m tripling up on the doublers with a focus on the Van defence. I also want a piece of the attacks for MIA and NYC.
  • Cincy host ORL in the last match of the game week for scrub purposes if the bench hits.
  • Can we go without Son?
  • I have Toklomati in for vibes right now, but he may become an LA FWD.
  • Freese – Kahlina but could switch a VAN defender for Keeper if Miami scores a bunch.
