MLS Fantasy Round 27 Team Reveals

Notes

  • I’ve gone for the Revs’ prodigal son Matt Turner as my primary ‘keeper. This is more for the second game at home to Toronto as I don’t think the Revs shut out Chicago. Importantly, taking Turner allows me to preview two DGW scores. This is before deciding whether to pivot to CJ Dos Santos, who will be my SGW fallback.
  • It’s slim pickings in defence this round, with Andrew Gutman my only guaranteed lock. Antônio Carlos has shown decent bonus point production since returning to MLS. He currently makes my squad, as does Brendan Hines-Ike. Although, Austin’s absences for their first game means he will be a bench play at best.
  • There aren’t many other DGW defenders I like, so I’ve selected Alex Roldán and Christopher McVey as SGW fallbacks in the other slots.
  • It’s a similar story in midfield, with Carles Gil and Philip Zinckernagel my only locks. Gil will likely be my captain, although the absence of Leonardo Campana for the Revs’ first game does put me off slightly.
  • Eduard Löwen has recorded three goals and one assist since returning to the St Louis starting XI and looks to be best of the rest when it comes to DGW options.
  • Owen Wolff is on a similarly hot streak but, like Hines-Ike, only makes the bench given the number of players Austin will be missing against SKC.
  • My remaining midfield pick will go to one of Martín Ojeda or Anders Dreyer, with the Argentine currently favoured due to Orlando’s game against DC United.
  • Upfront, two of Hugo Cuypers, Dejan Joveljić and Peter Musa will make my team. Musa has had limited minutes in recent weeks and will be the fall guy should he not start against St Louis.
  • Lionel Messi’s underlying numbers make him difficult to overlook despite a tricky away matchup against Charlotte.

Notes

  • Eight DGW squads give us a small pool of teams to choose from. But, we can fill up on doublers.
  • It’s looking like a best two out of the three from the bench. However, I can leave it until late Sunday night of the second week finale.
  • I don’t think there are clear DGW clean sheets options. This is especially with KC and NE, but the first Saturday/Sunday gives us an option to scrub KC if NE have a good first match.
  • Gil or Zinck will likely be my captain in this scenario.
  • I have lots of cash in the bank with this line-up, but I need to focus on the doublers.
