Notes
- Given the limited upside with ‘keepers, I’ve sacrificed Hugo Lloris for Aljaž Ivačič in order to take two LAFC defenders. I’m happy to see two scores from Ivačič before pivoting to Novak Mićović if needed: DC United have a USOC fixture midweek and could be vulnerable to a somewhat resurgent LA Galaxy at the weekend.
- In defence, Aaron Long and Eddie Segura are most likely to play twice for LAFC. Sergi Palencia should too, but will miss LAFC’s second game if he collects a yellow card on Wednesday evening.
- Maya Yoshida is my other starting defender and is a scrub candidate for whoever out of Jordi Alba and Kai Wagner scores better.
- Carles Gil and Đorđe Mihailović are locks in my midfield. I’m also fairly set on one of Joseph Paintsil or Marco Reus, partly because of team structure but also because I think DC United will struggle as mentioned.
- Form and fixtures mean I currently have two SGW players. Evander and Martín Ojeda – in my starting XI. However, I haven’t ruled out taking Pep Biel or Telasco Segovia. Although that would require swapping out one of Jordi Alba or Luis Suárez.
- Lionel Messi is a no-brainer for captaincy upfront.
- Denis Bouanga was a similarly straightforward inclusion, while Luis Suárez gets the nod over Tadeo Allende and Rafael Navarro by virtue of his higher points ceiling. However, Suárez is also one yellow card from suspension, so only makes the bench

- In goal, I’m currently on David Ochoa on the front end of my keeperoo with two home matchups against Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas. LA Galaxy’s Novak Micovic is my fallback should Lloris fail to keep a clean sheet in his first game.
- In defence, I’ve doubled up on LAFC defence with Sergi Palencia currently making my team. I’m also looking at Alex Freeman, the 20-year-old should be ready to go after being away on Gold Cup with the United States.
- I like Minnesota defence this week with Bongi Hlongwane currently the one making my team.
- Anthony Markanich is another defender I like with returns in his last three matches.
- My final defender is currently Emiro Garces with LA Galaxy facing a DC United side with three goals in their last five matches.
- In midfield, Djordje Mihailovic and Carles Gil were easy locks for me this week as they’re both on a double round.
- The Orlando City duo of Martin Ojeda and Marco Pasalic has combined for 30 of the 39 goals that their team has scored this season. I fancy their chances of adding that at home to a CF Montreal side that shipped four goals at home to Inter Miami last weekend.
- My final midfield pick is Marco Reus but I also like his teammate Joseph Paintsil, the Ghanaian showed some of his 2024 form with two goals against the Whitecaps.
- Up front, Lionel Messi is like always an easy inclusion as well as being the stand-out option for captaincy.
- My other forwards are currently Rafael Navarro and Denis Bouanga but it’s also hard to look past Sam Surridge with his current form.

Notes
- It’s a small DGW this week and I’m using two possible scrubs from the late game to manage single game bench players.
- I like the LAFC defence plus Bouanga, as well as the Inter-Miami attack. Though I do feel like Messi is unlikely to get two starts here.
- I still have the armband on Leo as one game plus with those matchups can be enough .
- Biel and Pasalic are playing well with good matchups to come from the bench.
- I will need to watch both Wednesday line-ups before finalizing.
