MLS Fantasy Round 13 Team Reveals

Notes

  • Round 13 is the first DGW of the season, with all but four teams (Chicago, Dallas, New England and Vancouver) playing twice. In terms of approach, a 5-3-2 formation with two defensive ‘scrubs’ can often be an effective way of navigating large DGWs such as these.
  • In goal, Andrew Rick is a cheap route into the Philadelphia defence and will be my primary goalkeeper should Andre Blake miss out once again.
  • Like Philadelphia, San Diego also have two home fixtures, making CJ Dos Santos an easy fallback pick in goal.
  • I’m planning on running a 5-3-2 autoroo as things stand, with DeJuan Jones, Andy Najar and Kai Wagner my three defenders. I like San Diego’s chances of at least one clean sheet this week, so Jones will become Paddy McNair if Rick gets a clean sheet in Philadelphia’s first game.
  • I am also considering the out-of-position Dante Sealy as a bench play, which would then see Chucky Lozano come into my starting XI.
  • In midfield, Anders Dreyer and Hany Mukhtar are locked in. Martín Ojeda and Quinn Sullivan are also likely to make my squad, albeit as bench plays. Ojeda can’t be overlooked given his and Orlando’s offensive exploits but has been benched in recent weeks, while Sullivan‘s points floor hasn’t always been 100% consistent.
  • Evander and Albert Rusnák are vying for my final midfield spot, with the latter currently making my team based on the consistency of his returns.
  • Upfront, it’s hard to overlook Denis Bouanga and Lionel Messi alongside Lozano. Messi, in particular, showed against Minnesota why he is hard to back against, producing a double-digit Fantasy return despite Inter Miami’s 4-1 drubbing.
  • Tai Baribo would be higher in my thinking this week if there weren’t doubts over his minutes, while Sam Surridge is also a consideration for a forward spot.

Notes

  • It’s a DGW for many teams, but check the schedule as a few do not.
  • My strategy in these weeks is to Auto-roo with two non-playing defenders and take the best two out of three from the bench.
  • Will Messi start/play two in a row? It’s a big question for sure and the first line-up will be telling.
  • SD has two at home so Chucky is locked in and a full three from SD.
  • Other matchups I love are Philly and Nashville, so I’m loading up there.
  • I’m also expecting/hoping for a CLT rebound this week. I would love Zaha but I haven’t got the room currently.
  • Espinosa is on the bubble to make the squad, will do a little more hunting before confirming there.

Notes

  • Philadelphia have two great matchups this DGW, so the question is which players will hit. Sullivan and Wagner were both an easy add, but the question about Blake’s fitness makes me want to move away from Rick.
  • Regardless, I like LAFC as a fallback. Najar’s attacking potential and BP production makes him a great DGW option. McNair could collect a ton of passing BPs alongside a CS shout.
  • Luna and Dreyer are big boom and bust options for this week on the bench.
  • Ojeda depends on if he starts midweek or not. I also like Mukhtar’s matchups a lot.
  • My captain armband will either go on Messi or Bouanga. I love SDFC’s matchups so much that Chucky is worth a bench punt.
