Notes
- Although Round 7 worked out for me in the end, I made some ropey picks that have had a knock-on effect on my team value for Round 8.
- It’s slim pickings for ‘keepers and defenders this week. Atlanta face the Revs at home, which is why Brad Guzan currently makes my squad, but I don’t feel great about it given the frequency with which The Five Stripes concede goals. Yohei Takaoka feels a slightly more secure pick on the back end of my ‘keeperoo given Vancouver’s form.
- In defence, I would have liked to pair Takaoka with the out-of-position Ali Ahmed but I’ve had to settle for Tate Johnson for budget reasons. I’m not convinced Nashville will keep a clean sheet without Walker Zimmerman but Andy Najar is still capable of attacking returns – the same is true of Alex Freeman, who is having a breakout season in Orlando. Logan Ndenbe is a budget fallback from the late slate.
- Evander was again one of the first names in my team this week, although he remains questionable following last week’s absence. Miguel Almirón, Hany Mukhtar and Martín Ojeda all have matchups on their side. Almirón should continue at the 10 in Alexey Miranchuk’s absence, although there’s a chance I drop him in favour of Federico Bernardeschi or Jack McGlynn if he doesn’t.
- San Diego have looked great so far this season and I expect them to do well again away to Colorado. Again, I would have liked Anders Dreyer but have had to compromise and pick Onni Valakari due to budget constraints.
- Upfront, Lionel Messi is a shoo-in and will captain my side again if he starts against Chicago.
- My other picks are Emmanuel Latte Lath and the dependable Christian Benteke, although there’s still a chance Kelvin Yeboah makes my team.

Notes
- Miami have a busy schedule, but I’m looking at holding Segovia to Sunday and check the line-ups.
- Leo may get a rest, so I need to be ready to switch, but captaincy is locked for now.
- Ahmed and Orellano stay locked in for now.
- Double Minn or double Orlando on the bench from the early games, with right now Orlando getting two since at home.
- Zaha gets another run for me, I’m expecting him to heat up and the team overall to play better on the road against a struggling MTL.

Notes
- GK: Guzan 5.6m; He’s at home vs New England who are weak in attack and I like that matchup.
- DEF: Freeman 6.1m: At home against Red Bull means a good chance of a clean sheet.
- T. Johnson 6.0m; Only 6.0 and the Vancouver matchup is at home against Austin.
- DEF; Orellano 8.7m – I like him this week mainly for his attacking threat and upside.
