Gameweek 38 best wildcard

We look at the Gameweek 38 best wildcard team. Using the Fantasy Football Scout season ticker we can see which teams have the best run of fixtures. This can then aid FPL managers in picking out some of the best assets for the run ahead.

The wildcard gives managers the opportunity to change their entire team for any reason. Managers activate their wildcards for several reasons. Whether that be to target fixture swings or just change their team up, the wildcard can be precious to our planning.

Fixture ticker

We can see from the ticker below, the teams at the top have the easiest fixtures, whilst the teams at the bottom have the toughest fixtures up to the end of the season.

Who has the best fixtures?

Everton, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenhm all make up the top five teams with the easiest fixtures according to the fixture ticker.

Who has the worst fixtures?

Brentford, Wolves, Southampton, Newcastle and Fulham all make up the bottom five teams with the toughest fixtures according to the fixture ticker.

The best wildcard

Goalkeepers

Crystal Palace have made some significant defensive improvements since Roy Hodgson took over as manager. An example of the growth in the backline is that in the last six Gameweeks they rank second best for shots in the box conceded (33) and third best for shots on target conceded (19). Because of this and the fact they face an on the beach Nottingham Forest, Sam Johnstone (£4.4m) could have good potential.

On the bench is Brighton’s cheap enabling Jason Steele (£4m). He will only feature in the unlikely even Johnstone does not.

Defenders

Liverpool face the relegated Southampton next up who rank the second worst side in the division for goal scored this season. Because of this it could be worth looking into the Liverpool defence. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.8m) not only dominates some of the key distribution data points in the last six but he has also banked a massive eight returns in his last 10 matches.

Leeds have conceded the third most goals in the last six Gameweeks. This benefits the likes of wing-back and budget enabler Pedro Porro (£4.8m) who gets into some of the most advanced positions on the pitch. Amongst all defenders in the league in the last six Gameweeks Porro also ranks first for attempts on goal (12).

Manchester United have solidified themselves as the best defensive unit in the division this campaign in terms of clean sheets (16). Because of this it could be worth buying into their defence. Aaron Wan-Bissaka comes in with a price-tag of £4.3m which helps to push funds elsewhere within the side.

Arsenal face a side, Wolves, whom rank the worst for goals scored this season. Investing in their defence could be hugely beneficial. Ben White (£5m) could be a great addition to the squad. The left-back has registered three assists and one goal in his last 10 league matches.

Joining Ben White on the bench is Manchester City’s Rico Lewis (£3.8m). It is unlikely he will feature for managers but could start the final game of the season for his side with the league already tied up.

Midfielders

Arsenal have maintained some of the best offensive stats in the league this season. One player who has been instrumental to that is Martin Ødegaard (£6.8m). The Norwegian has bagged three returns in his last six matches including two double-digit hauls.

Liverpool come against a very poor Southampton in the final round. Th Saints have been woeful this season but more recently they have also conceded three or more goals in four of their last six matches. Who better to take advantage of Southampton’s defensive fragilities than Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) who has banked five returns in his last six games including three double-digit hauls.

In the last six Gameweeks Brighton rank second for goals scored (16), first for attempts on goal (130), first for shots in the box (88) and second for big chances total (24). Brighton’s in-form attack could warant one of their attackers and Alexis Mac Allister (£5.6m) could be the best pick. The midfielder edges all of his offensive teammates for non-penalty expected goal involvement in the last six and takes his sides penalties.

It could be very difficult to leave out talismanic Marcus Rashford (£7.2m). Manchester United face a team who rank as one of the worst sides in the league for big chances conceded this season which could give Rashford plenty of potential.

Crystal Palace have a game against Nottingham Forest this week. The newly promoted side have secured their place in the league for next season so have little to play for. Defensively, Nottingham Forest have also conceded two or more goals in four of their last six. Due to that and his three returns in his last four matches, Eberechi Eze (£5.6m) could be a great addition.

Forwards

Tottenham may be inconsistent but their main man has been relentless this season. Harry Kane (£11.4m) sits as the second highest scoring player in FPL. His 247 points consist of a whopping 28 goals and three assists. With a game against the defensively insecure Leeds next, Kane could go big.

Manchester City have been the best team in the league again this season. The biggest contributor to that is Erling Haaland (£12.4m) who has amassed an incredible 36 goals and seven assists in 34 matches. Haaland has been the most explosive player in FPL this season and because of that has to make the team.

Sitting third on the bench and unlikely to feature is Leeds striker Sam Greenwood (£4.1m).
