Gameweek 23 best wildcard
Looking at the Gameweek 23 best wildcard team. Using the Fantasy Football Scout season ticker we can see which teams have the best run of fixtures. This can then aid FPL managers in picking out some of the best assets for the run ahead.
The wildcard gives managers the opportunity to change their entire team for any reason. Managers activate their wildcards for several reasons. Whether that be to target fixture swings or just change their team up, the wildcard can be precious to our planning.
Fixture ticker
We can see from the ticker below, the teams at the top have the easiest fixtures, whilst the teams at the bottom have the toughest fixtures up to Gameweek 28 (a six match period).
Who has the best fixtures?
Arsenal and Manchester City rank as first and second on the fixture ticker, both of whom also have double Gameweeks in the round ahead. Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea also make up the rest of the top five teams with the best fixtures.
All of the teams above also have fixtures in blank Gameweek 25.
Who has the worst fixtures?
Newcastle, Man United, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Brentford all rank in the bottom five teams with the worst fixtures. Of those teams, Newcastle, Man United and Brentford do not have fixtures in blank Gameweek 25.
The best wildcard team
Goalkeepers
There’s not many reasons to exclude Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.6m) from our wildcard teams. The Spaniard has picked up a huge 29 points in his last three matches and has great fixtures ahead.
Leicester’s Danny Ward (£4m) makes a solid back up goalkeeper on the bench. If and when Leicester do improve at the back, he could be rotated with Kepa around fixtures.
Defenders
Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier (£6.1m) has been one of the best assets in the game this season and he continues to maintain the best distribution stats amongst defenders whilst playing for the best defence. He will be benched during the blank Gameweek in Gameweek 25.
Chelsea’s underlying defensive stats in the last six matches continue to improve and they’ve got their most dangerous defender back from injury. Reece James (£5.7m) started his last match which indicates he’ll start in the round ahead.
Manchester City may have slipped up recently but they still have some of the best defensive stats in the league. Dodging most of the rotation is Manuel Akanji (£5m) who could be great cover for the double Gameweek ahead.
Everton looked fantastic defensively under new manager Sean Dyche against Arsenal. This turnaround has a great chance of continuing with good fixtures ahead. James Tarkowski (£4.2m) scored in his last match showing threat so could be a great inclusion off the bench.
Wolves also have some great fixtures coming up and with Hugo Bueno’s (£3.9) recent minutes in doubt it could be wise to move for the more reliable Max Kilman (£4.3m) who also plays in blank Gameweek 25.
Midfielders
Bukayo Saka (£8.3m) has a double Gameweek ahead and Arsenal have been one of the best offensive sides in the league, bagging four returns in his last six matches is impressive and he could extend that with two matches.
Manchester City also have a double Gameweek and lead the way for the majority of the underlying offensive stats. For that reason it could be worth investing in Riyad Mahrez (£7.7m) who has started the last four matches in the league whilst also bagging four returns in his last six matches.
Leeds have been conceding some of the worst defensive stats in the league in the last six matches. There is no reason why the in-form Marcus Rashford shouldn’t be making teams this week.
Brighton have been fantastic this season and have scored more goals than most other teams in the league over the last six. One of the reasons for that is Kaoru Mitoma (£5.2m), picking up four goals and one assist in the same period, reflecting great form. Mitoma will be benched for his blank Gameweek in Gameweek 25.
As ever, Fulham’s Andreas Pereira (£4.4m) makes the team as one of the best enablers in the game. It also helps that he plays a fixture in Gameweek 25.
Forwards
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (£12.2m) will be the most captained player in the game for Gameweek 23. The striker has been the best asset in the game, do not exclude him.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane (£11.7m) sits as the second highest scorer in FPL , has been consistent all season and is arguably fixture proof, so is an easy fit for the wildcard.
Arsenal’s impressive attacking stats and double Gameweek warrant a double up on their front line and one way to do that could be Eddie Nketiah (£6.7) who is the focal point to the attack.
