Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 23?

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 23.

Recent FPL goals

Some attackers are in great form over their last four matches:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over their last four league appearances:

  • No more than one goal
  • At least eight shots
  • At least two big chances
  • An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.00
  • An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.20

Due a goal in Gameweek 23

There is still one match before Gameweek 23 – Man United v Leeds – which could remove Wilfried Gnonto from this list. He just needs to score twice, considering his goal was four games ago.

Ranked via xG

From the seven names of Gameweek 22, Callum Wilson netted against West Ham and Harvey Barnes assisted twice. Yet both remain on the list – Wilson travels to Bournemouth but Barnes has to face Spurs.

It’s Chelsea’s Kai Havertz who leads the way as an underachiever, although at least he’s scored recently – unlike Darwin Nunez close behind in second place. It’s the same story as always with the Uruguayan – five shots against Wolves but another blank.

Elsewhere, Aleksandar Mitrovic has frustrated managers with recent penalty misses, blanks and a suspension but is about to face Nottingham Forest at home.

The weekend’s second-highest xGI score belongs to Dominic Calvert-Lewin (0.91). If it wasn’t for being overpriced, DCL could have been a legitimate name on the FPL radar. He also has a slight hamstring issue from the win over Arsenal.
