We look at the Gameweek 20 best wildcard team. Using the Fantasy Football Scout season ticker we can see which teams have the best run of fixtures. This can then aid FPL managers in picking out some of the best assets for the run ahead.

The wildcard gives managers the opportunity to change their entire team for any reason. Managers activate their wildcards for several reasons. Whether that be to target fixture swings or just change their team up, the wildcard can be precious to your planning.

Goalkeepers

Arsenal are maintaining the best defensive data in the league so far this season so investing in them will be key. The fixtures ahead are fantastic for Arsenal and one of the safest and cheapest routes in terms of minutes is David Raya (£4.9m). Backing Raya up is Newcastle’ Martin Dubravka (£4.3m) who continues to fill in for the injured Nick Pope.

Defenders

Aston Villa also have a great schedule ahead so buying into their cheap defence could be wise. One of the safest and cheapest routes into the backline in terms of minutes is Ezri Konsa (£4.6m).

Tottenham have been brilliant recently and one their top performing assets is full-back Pedro Porro (£5.6m). Porro ranks second best for non-penalty expected goal involvement and first for total attempts on goal amongst defenders in the last six Gameweeks.

Edging Pedro Porro for non-penalty expected goal involvement in the last six matches is Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.3m). The Liverpool full-back could be a wise long-term move with main man Mohamed Salah leaving for AFCON next week. Trent has also managed to return in each of his last eight matches.

The Chelsea schedule is very good for their defence and Malo Gusto (£4.1m) could well be the answer. As well as being one of the cheapest at the back Gusto has already created two assists this season. Joining him on the bench but less likely to be called up to the starting 11 is Luton’ Teden Mengi (£4m).

Midfielders

Arsenal face some woeful recent defences ahead of them. Because of that investing in their standout attacking asset Bukayo Saka (£9m) makes sense. Saka has been one of the best assets in the game this season so far and takes his sides penalties.

Until he leaves for the African Cup of Nations next week Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) is still a brilliant option. Newcastle have been extremely poor defensive recently. With that in mind and the fact he has been excellent this season Salah stays for one more game.

The Manchester United fixtures look great and although they have been inconsistent they have a very affordable attacker, Alejandro Garnacho (£4.7m). Garnacho seems to be favoured in the starting 11 and bagged two goals in his latest match.

Another player leaving for an international competition next week is Son Heung-Min (£9.9m). Tottenham have sustained some of the best attacking data in the league this season and Son has spearheaded that. A fixture against Bournemouth before he leaves for the Asia Cup is too good to ignore.

Cole Palmer (£5.6m) returns this week after serving up his suspension. The Chelsea attacker has been by far their best and most influential attacker this season and because of that has been given penalty duty. Palmer has also picked up attacking returns from open play so has multiple routes to points.

Forwards

The Aston Villa fixtures are very good which means huge potential for focal point Ollie Watkins (£8.8m). Although quiet recently in terms of output Watkins has produced a huge nine goals and six assists in 19 matches so far this campaign.

Bournemouth may not rank as highly as other teams on the fixture ticker but they are in fine form – winning six of their last seven league games and netting at least two goals in all of them. Because of that and the fact he is sustaining some of the best attacking form and stats in the division recently penalty taker Dominic Solanke (£7m) is a very easy addition.

Enabling the expensive team we have here is Sheffield United’ Cameron Archer (£4.6m). It is unlikely that Archer will feature for us but will play if needed.
