@FPLReaction’ top three picks for FPL Gameweek 9
With the new round edging closer we bring in Fantasy Football Community and Fantasy Football Scout contributor @FPLReaction’ (Louis) to reel off his top three picks for FPL Gameweek 9.
The early rounds are good opportunities to get off to a great start. Here I will give you my top three picks for FPL Gameweek 9 to try and help with that. There are some very obvious options with huge potential for the new round and whilst I will list them, I will also provide you with three different picks who I think could also do well.
The obvious options
- Ollie Watkins (£8.2m)
- Bryan Mbeumo (£6.7m)
- Mohamed Salah (£12.7m)
- Erling Haaland (£14m)
- Julian Alvarez (£7m)
- Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m)
- Kieran Trippier (£6.9m)
- Son Heung-min (£9.5m)
- James Maddison (£8.1m)
Rasmus Højlund
Manchester United…where do I start. They have genuinely been one of the most frustrating sides in the league this season in terms of FPL. Because of that a lot of managers have started shipping their assets out which I think could be a problem looking ahead.
I don’t think there is a better fixture in the league at the moment than Sheffield United. Yes they’ve been poor but when you look at the data they’ve actually been atrocious defensively. Sheffield United are the worst in the division for stats like goals conceded, shots conceded, big chances conceded and more.
If there is a team to target, even with players who aren’t performing that well, its Sheffield United. One player who I think is going to do well this week is Rasmus Højlund (£7.2m). The Dane has been a bit of a slow burner domestically but then scored three in two Champions League matches. If there is a team who this man can return against its Sheffield United.
Hwang Hee-chan
I never thought I’d see the day I would be recommending Wolves attackers. This is mainly due to how poor they were in front of goal last season. Things seem to be on the up though and they’ve actually scored a goal in all of their matches this season excluding the opener.
Now we’re not just going to pick a Wolves attacker because they’ve been scoring goals. The biggest factor could be that they face Bournemouth next. The Cherries were maintaining some of the worst defensive data in the league last season and that seems to be case this season. In fact, the Bournemouth backline seems to be getting gradually worse as we progress through the season.
Hwang Hee-chan (£5.4m) has been kind of underwhelming since joining Wolves until this season. So far this campaign he’s taken his game to a whole other level and seems to be converting his performances into actual points. In fact, in the last five matches he’s claimed at least one return in four. The Bournemouth defence are there to be punished and Hwang Hee-chan has the form to do exactly that.
Morgan Gibbs-White
Nottingham Forest haven’t exactly set the world alight with their performances this season. One thing they have been doing however is converting against very poor defences and we have seen that against the likes of Manchester United, Sheffield United and Burnley.
I think Luton are still a great team to target. The Hatters may not be conceding the worst defensive data in the league but they are still yet to keep a single clean sheet so far this season and I don’t see that improving any time soon.
One player who I think could do really this week is Morgan Gibbs-White (£5.8m). Firstly he’s on penalties which could be a huge boost going into the game. He also needs to step up in general with Taiwo Awoniyi out injured. Not just that though but he’s also maintaining the second best non-penalty expected goal involvement amongst the Nottingham Forest attackers.
