Best players to buy

FPL Gameweek 4-6: Best Players and Chip Strategy
  • Aston Villa – It could be last chance saloon for Aston Villa assets. Their fixtures are still fantastic and they remain at the top of the fixture ticker. In defence, the safest option for minutes appears to be Ezri Konsa (£4.5m). There are a lot more options to pick from in attack, with striker Ollie Watkins (£8.9m) leading the line, and midfielder Morgan Rogers (£7m) being the standouts. Youri Tielemans (£5.9m) could be a cheaper option. The Belgian scored an assisted for country during the break.
  • Liverpool – Liverpool also have three great fixtures. The recent purchase of Alexander Isak from Newcastle could mean less gametime for Huge Ekitike and Cody Gakpo. Two players who do appear good for minutes long-term are midfielders Florian Wirtz (£8.4m) and Mohamed Salah (£14.5m). Like most good assets, both are yet to convince, but it could be a matter of time before that changes. Meanwhile, the most reliable option in defence is centre-back Virgil Van Dijk (£6m), who ranks among the best defenders in the league for defensive contributions thus far.
  • Tottenham – West Ham, Brighton and Wolves could be fantastic opposition for Tottenham assets. Those looking to invest in defence could go for Mickey van de Ven (£4.6m) who comes in nice and cheap. Alternatively, Pedro Porro (£5.6m) holds considerable attacking threat, giving owners multiple routes to points. Dominic Solanke’ injury could make fellow striker Richarlison (£6.7m) a much more reliable pick in attack. In midfield new signing Mohammed Kudus (£6.6m) has made a great early impression. Fellow midfielder Brennan Johnson (£7.1m) has more goal threat but less reliability in terms of minutes.

Who else should we consider?

  • West HamLucas Paqueta (midfielder – £5.9m)
  • BournemouthMarcos Senesi (defender – £4.6m) and midfielder Antoine Semenyo (£7.4m)
  • BrentfordDango Ouattara (midfielder – £6m) and Igor Thiago (striker – £6m)
  • FulhamJoachim Anderson (defender – £4.5m)
  • Nottingham ForestNeco Williams (defender – £5m) and Chris Wood (striker – £7.7m)
  • ChelseaJoao Pedro (striker – £7.5m)
  • Manchester CityErling Haaland (striker – £14.5m) and Tijani Reijnders (midfielder – £5.7m)
  • Crystal PalaceMarc Guehi (defender – £4.6m), Maxence Lacroix (defender – £5m), Daniel Munoz (defender – £5.5m) and Jean-Phillipe Mateta (striker – £7.5m)

Should we play a chip?

FPL Gameweek 4-6: Best Players and Chip Strategy
  • Triple Captain – Gameweek 4 could be an excellent opportunity to use the triple captain chip. Mohamed Salah faces newly promoted Burnley who have shipped six goals already. Some could argue that Salah has failed to convince thus far, so waiting for him to hit his usual type of relentless form and for home matches against promoted teams ahead could work out better.
  • Free Hit – Some may want to avoid clashes like Arsenal v Nottingham Forest and Manchester City v Manchester United in Gameweek 4, or Chelsea v Manchester United and Arsenal v Manchester City in Gameweek 5. For those reasons using the free hit could be justified. However, most experienced managers will likely be saving their chip for a later date.
  • Wildcard – A poor start from popular assets could make wildcarding a good move. The same could be said for managers who have experienced multiple injuries or issues in their side. If you fit into any of those categories then you could activate it. But, there are considerable fixture swings ahead, so saving it could prove more beneficial.
  • Bench Boost – Wildcarding then bench boosting immediately after is usually a tact used by FPL veterans. Some may even have 15 starting players with decent enough fixtures to use bench boost. Many are planning to wildcard into a bench boost around Gameweek 13-15 due to fixture swings, so holding off on that could work.
