Gameweek 1 delivered a solid start, with 74 points putting the side well inside the top one million managers, from nearly six million entrants. The overall outcome of a successful season doesn’t hinge on a good Gameweek 1, but I’ll gladly accept the points all the same. Going with Mo Salah as captain truly propped up the side for this week, with his 40 points contributing more than half of the gameweek score. The other key premium players Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Timo Werner also delivered crucial points, with James Justin stumping up a nine point haul in defence. A one week punt on Son Heung-Min failed to deliver anything, ahead of a planned move for Bruno Fernandes in Gameweek 2. Aleksandar Mitrovic disappointed from the bench, but a kind run of fixtures is ahead of him now. Elsewhere, Eric Dier was the biggest disappointment of the gameweek and could be moved on soon.FPL Gameweek 2 Preview
This week the top priority was to get on board a Manchester United attacker, with their blank out of the way and a very appealing set of fixtures too. £1.5 million in the bank has made that very easy to achieve. I went early on the transfer, with Son Heung-Min moving out for Bruno Fernandes. With price changes volatile and unpredictable during the early weeks of the season, it has to be the top priority. Given the volume of penalties awarded in Gameweek 1 for the most offensive sides, he is going to be a gem this season. There’s a slight temptation to use an additional transfer this week to bring in Jamie Vardy for Timo Werner. He delivered two penalties in Gameweek 1 and now has the perfect blend of form and fixtures going into the next few weeks. I’ll update later in this week if I make this additional move for a hit. When it comes to captaincy, it’s a two horse race between Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bruno Fernandes. Aubameyang is probably the safe bet here, but Fernandes has an enticing upside. I’ll probably keep things simple though, with Aubameyang getting the armband and Fernandes the vice captain.WANT TO WIN YOUR SHARE OF €1,000,000…?!
