Fantasy EFL Top Picks for Gameweek 16

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at the Fantasy EFL top picks for Gameweek 16. We bring in our expert and regular Fantasy EFL contributor @FPLEdgeworth to reveal two of his best players in each position ahead of the new round.

Our Fantasy EFL Fantasy top picks for Gameweek 16 can be hugely beneficial for fantasy managers. Knowing who the best players to own in each position and top two teams to target are could help you beat your mini-league rivals and secure a good rank.

Goalkeepers – Viktor Johansson – Stoke City

My first goalkeeper in this week’s top picks is Johansson, who appears to be a save machine for Stoke. So far he has made a whopping 60 saves in just 15 games, averaging out at four saves a game, which is two extra points per match. This week Stoke play QPR and Preston, two great chances to keep a clean sheet.

Illan Meslier – Leeds United

Next up is Leeds goalkeeper Meslier, who has kept three clean sheets in the last four games, and a huge nine clean sheets in 15 games this season. This week Leeds play Swansea (away) and Luton (home). Both sides have struggled to maintain a good run of form, so Meslier has two good opportunities to keep a clean sheet.

Defenders – Harry Souttar – Sheffield United

Souttar is my next top pick, and is one of the most reliable point scorers in the game. In his last 12 games he’s only failed to score six or more points just once. Sheffield United play managerless Coventry and Oxford at home, and so there is no reason why Souttar can’t extend his excellent output.

Marc Roberts – Barnsley

A player that is making his second top pick appearance in a row is Marc Roberts. The Barnsley defender, is my next top pick. In the last five games, he has returned eight or more points in four of them, whilst also picking up 47 clearances. This week Barnsley play Wigan and Reading, with both fixtures at home. So, with the home advantage, Roberts should pick up another good score.

Midfielders – Finn Azaz – Middlesbrough

My first midfielder in this week’s top pick is Azaz. In the last five games Azaz has impressed with 46 points, including a 19-point haul in week 14. Middlesbrough come up against Oxford and Blackburn this week. Oxford have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight games, whilst Blackburn kept just one in their last five. There is no reason why Azaz shouldn’t add to his three goals and six assists this week.

Adam Phillips – Barnsley

A player that was highly picked at the start of the season is up next. Phillips, the Barnsley man, has been struggling with injuries recently, but with two 90 minutes in a row, he looks like he’s back to full fitness. Phillips banked five or more points in each of his last four games. With seven goals and two assists in just 11 games this season, Phillips has had a fantastic start to the campaign, and two home matches should allow him to add to that.

Forwards – Nathan Lowe – Walsall

Nathan Lowe makes the cut this week. The Walsall striker has been hard to stop in his last eight games. In seven of those eight games Lowe has produced five or more points, mostly due to a huge seven goals and three assists. Wimbledon and Bromley lay ahead this week, two teams that haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last two games.

Michael Cheek – Bromley

Completing my player picks this week is Michael Cheek. Although playing in the EFL for the first time in his career, Cheek has really impressed – hitting eight goals and one assist so far already. Two of those goals came in his last three games, which shows he is currently in form. Bromley play Salford and Walsall on the road this week, two sides who haven’t kept a clean sheet at home in their last three games.

Teams to Target

  • Sheffield United – The Blades have been exceptional this season, and for their efforts sit joint first in the Championship. Four wins on the bounce means they go into their double against Coventry and Oxford in great form. As well as scoring twice in three of those four games, Sheffield United also managed three clean sheets.
  • Middlesbrough – Middlesbrough have also found form recently – winning two games on the bounce, whilst also netting a huge nine goals. They face Oxford who have won just one of their last 10 matches, and Blackburn, who have claimed just one win in their last four. They have two great opportunities to win, keep clean sheets and score goals.
