Notes
- GW15 was another miserable round for me. No fewer than three of my starting XI were benched for the midweek games, injuries galore and another red arrow down to an OR of 390k. I’m also staring down the barrel of a potential -8 hit (and possibly more) going into GW16!
- I have plenty of other fires to put out. But, Alphonse Areola’s unexpected absence against Spurs means I may need to bring forward my planned move for Martin Dúbravka in order to have a starting goalkeeper for GW16.
- I would have liked to make a move in defence this week. However, with issues elsewhere, Kostas Tsimikas, William Saliba and Gabriel will likely start at the back again for me. Jamaal Lascelles and Charlie Taylor will be on my bench.
- If you have Tsimikas then I would definitely play him. Liverpool have the third-best clean sheet odds this week. I’m also hopeful Tsimikas can avoid another benching having already been rested against Sheffield United. The same is true of Darwin Nuñez, from whom I need a big game to ensure I don’t make further net point losses following my Ollie Watkins transfer.
- My issues in midfield continue! In the end, I only made one transfer in GW15. That move was to switch Bruno Fernandes for Bukayo Saka (which turned out to be well timed). I also opted against selling Moussa Diaby for a hit. My replacement for Diaby would have been Cole Palmer, who I will be transferring in this week instead following the Aston Villa midfielder’s latest benching.
- Bryan Mbeumo is reportedly ‘out for weeks’ after picking up an ankle injury against Brighton. This forces me into an unwanted second midfield transfer. Anthony Gordon is the most likely replacement, while Hee-Chan Hwang is also on my radar. Although I am wary that he is only one yellow card from suspension and due to depart for the Asian Cup in January.
- Elsewhere in midfield, Mohamed Salah, Bukayo Saka and Son-Heung Min should all start as expected. However, Son appeared to come off with a knock towards the end of the West Ham game. I will be sweating on news to avoid having to spend three transfers on midfielders!
- Erling Haaland will once again start upfront alongside Nuñez. Despite only registering two shots on target against Aston Villa, Manchester City should have Rodri back for what is a plum fixture against Luton. Haaland is top for both expected points and goalscoring odds this week. For those reasons, he is easily the standout captain choice for GW16.
