The top three picks for FPL Gameweek 16

A trio of top player picks for FPL Gameweek 16, which has a very quick turnaround from all the midweek action.

Gameweek 15 ends on Thursday night but, by Saturday lunchtime, we’re already onto a new round of Premier League football.

Ignoring the more obvious options, listed below, here are three picks with serious potential to excel in Gameweek 16.

THE OBVIOUS OPTIONS

  • Erling Haaland (£14.0m)
  • Mohamed Salah (£13.1m)
  • Son Heung-min (£9.6m)
  • Bukayo Saka (£8.9m)
  • Ollie Watkins (£8.4m)
  • Jarrod Bowen (£7.6m)
  • Bryan Mbeumo (£7.1m)
  • Kieran Trippier (£7.0m)

Yoane Wissa (£5.9m)

Should Bryan Mbeumo’s ankle issue deny his managers from having him against Sheffield United, it should allow Wissa back into the starting XI.

Yes, he was benched in midweek as a consequence of his returns dramatically nosediving since Gameweek 2, where he suggested that the late form of 2022/23 would carry over.

But a one-off consideration should be made for this opponent. After all, Wissa is still amongst the best FPL forwards for attempts, as well as shots inside the box. He’s producing far less than his expected goals (xG) and expected goal involvement (xGI) tallies suggest.

Julian Alvarez (£7.0m)

Unless Pep Guardiola strongly hints at rotation, forward Julian Alvarez could feast during their meeting with Luton. No side has conceded more big chances (53) than the Hatters.

The World Cup winner could, of course, be kept fresh for future Gameweeks. But they’re out of the EFL Cup and already guaranteed top spot in Champions League Group G – a competition where he’s only started one of five occasions. It means the team can focus fully on grabbing all three points at Kenilworth Road, following a stunning run of four winless league games.

Lewis Dunk (£5.0m)

Back from a two-match suspension, captain Lewis Dunk is amongst the best defenders for underlying attacking stats. He’s inside the top few for attempts (16), shots inside the box (11) and headed efforts (nine).

He’d have true haul potential if it wasn’t for Brighton’s inability to keep a clean sheet. They’re still without any in the league but a home clash with Burnley is a great opportunity to end the hoodoo.
