@Dmpwright’ Expert Free Hit Team for Gameweek 29
In this article we take a look at an expert free hit team for Gameweek 29. We welcome regular contributor and team revealer @dmpwright to reveal his best free hit team as he explains some of the rationale behind his selections.
It’s a huge Blank Gameweek ahead so many within the community are deciding whether or not they should use the Free Hit Chip. Whilst we don’t answer that here, we do however take a look at what your Free Hit should look like.
Introduction
A lot of FPL managers are considering using their Free Hit chip to navigate the blank fixtures in GW29. Here, I outline some of the players you should be considering, as well as some potential differential picks.
Best Free Hit for Gameweek 29
Goalkeepers
Goalkeepers look like a bit of a crapshoot for GW29! At the time of writing, only Brentford have a >25% chance (!) of keeping a clean sheet in GW29. For that reason, I’d be inclined to select Mark Flekken as my starting goalkeeper. However, even Brentford’s odds of a clean sheet are only 29%, so you could consider other options like Guglielmo Vicario or Alphonse Areola, who are joint top for saves among goalkeepers with a game in GW29.
Defenders
It’s a similar story in defence, although Alfie Doughty and Pedro Porro are worthy of inclusion for their offensive upside alone. The third defensive spot is one place where you’re likely to see variability this week. I’ve decided to double up on the team with the best clean sheet odds and gone for Sergio Reguilón, providing he’s passed fit. Mads Roerslev is a good alternative from Brentford if Reguilón is ruled out, while Matty Cash is top for total attempts, attempts and big chances among all defenders over the last 6 Gameweeks. I wouldn’t pick a different Aston Villa defender due to potential rotation and limited upside (and I expect West Ham to score).
Midfielders
In midfield, Son-Heung Min, James Maddison and Jarrod Bowen all pick themselves in my opinion and should be a lock in most Free Hit teams. I would run three forwards in GW29, which leaves one midfield spot in the starting XI. This is another position where you could choose to go different. However, due to Luton’s poor defensive numbers, I favour a Nottingham Forest midfielder like Morgan Gibbs-White, who is on penalties, or a riskier upside pick like Anthony Elanga, who is in the top 10 for NPxGI over the last six Gameweeks. Mohamed Kudus or James Ward-Prowse are also worthy of consideration, as are Leon Bailey and Douglas Luiz, although the Villa midfielders’ offensive numbers do drop off away from home.
Forwards
My three forwards of choice on the Free Hit are Ollie Watkins, Ivan Toney and Carlton Morris.
David Datro Fofana and Rodrigo Muniz are my differential forward picks – although watch out for potential rotation in the Fulham attack, who may be forced to field Armando Broja if they are to avoid paying a substantial loan fee as part of their agreement with Chelsea.
