Community Team Reveal Gameweek 3 – Toby Bryant
Each Gameweek brings an FPL community team reveal. As a result, that person gives insight into their transfers, captaincy and future plans.
Ahead of Gameweek 3, it’s the turn of Toby Bryant to tell us what is happening to his team.
Hi Toby and thanks for the team reveal. So how did Gameweek 2 go?
Not well, although it seems I’m not the only Fantasy manager who suffered. Carney Chukwuemeka’s five points off the bench for Leandro Trossard brought the most cause for celebration, which paints the dire picture pretty well. Pervis Estupinan hauled – although is owned by everyone and their dog – and I finished with 37 points.
I’ve never Wildcarded this early in a decade of FPL but I think there are enough fires to put out so I’m going aggressive and using it early. I’m not feeling super comfortable with Trossard, Chukwuemeka (injured), Bruno Fernandes, Jason Steele or Joao Pedro. Although a couple of weeks of planned transfers could go a long way, I’m going to go ahead and Wildcard.
What does your defence look like?
The defence is what I’m changing the least. Ben Chilwell is going to stay, as his attacking positions have been outrageous and Estupinan is a shoo-in. Sven Botman looks to be of great value this season and I’ve chosen Issa Kabore as my £4.0m option. Many are instead going for Malo Gusto but Reece James will be back eventually, so I’m thinking longer-term.
The fifth spot is my current headache and depends on elsewhere in my team. I want William Saliba but his £0.1m rise may see me go with Josko Gvardiol, although there is a world where I end up with Destiny Udogie to free up some funds. I’m keen to have Ederson alongside Matt Turner in goal but, if funds are stretched, it’ll be Robert Sanchez.
Meanwhile, what about your midfield and attack?
I had half a mind to choose Martin Odegaard over Bukayo Saka after the Norwegian took Monday night’s penalty but I’m sticking with the latter. With tasty fixtures, I’m jumping on the Bryan Mbeumo bandwagon too.
Sasa Lukic is £4.5m bench fodder and I’m going to keep going with Mohammed Salah, who I think has looked promising. The final spot is a bit up in the air – Richarlison is tempting but Phil Foden seems a wiser choice and can later be moved towards James Maddison.
Alongside Erling Haaland up top, I’m going for Alexander Isak as Newcastle look great. I see them putting a few past Liverpool at St James’ Park. Also, I’m not convinced by the Nicolas Jackson hype after the first two Gameweeks and am therefore doubling up on Brentford with Yoane Wissa.
Finally, what about captaincy?
It’ll be Haaland against Sheffield United. I got away with captaining Salah last week but won’t be risking that again.
