Best three premium picks for Gameweek 1

With FPL 2022/23 now live FPL managers will be starting to create their first drafts. For FPL managers making the right choices for with their premium players will be key to a successful start to the season. We assess the best three premium picks for Gameweek 1.

Most FPL managers will set up their FPL teams with the opening five gameweeks of the season in mind. This is a wise strategy as it means FPL managers can target a good run of fixtures. However, who are the premium picks who have the best fixtures in Gameweek 1.

Mohamed Salah £13.0m

Salah was the top goal scorer in the Premier League last season. He was also the top scoring player in FPL during the 2021/22 season. Salah returned 265 FPL points, seven more than second placed Son Heung-Min from Spurs.

The Liverpool midfielder scored 22 goals during the 2021/22 season and he registered 14 assists.

Liverpool travel to newly promoted Fulham in Gameweek 1. Salah scored a goal and returned a bonus point on his last trip to Craven Cottage in the 2020/21 season. The midfielder also averages 6.38 points per match against newly promoted sides.

In his matches against teams arriving in the Premier League that season Salah has registered 13 goals, nine assists and 14 bonus points.

Salah also has a fantastic record in Gameweek 1. The midfielder has played in five Gameweek 1 matches, he has returned in every match including four double digit hauls. In Gameweek 1 matches Salah has seven goals, four assists and 11 bonus points.

He looks likely to be one of the best premium picks for Gameweek 1.

Harry Kane £11.5m

Kane missed Gameweek 1 in the 2021/22 season as a result of England’s involvement in the Euro 2020 final. In addition Kane had an unsettled summer in regards to a potential move away from North London. However, Kane found his form again under Antonio Conte in the second half of the premier league season and was the highest scoring FPL forward last season.

Kane scored 17 goals and returned 11 assists in the 2021/22 season. In Gameweek 1 Kane faces Southampton. The forward averages 7.29 points per match against Southampton and has returned 39 points in his last four home meetings against the Saints.

Kane’s second biggest FPL haul came against Southampon in Gameweek 2 of the 2021/22 season where he returned 21 points. In that fixture Kane registered one goal, four assists and three bonus points.

With an attractive fixture against a club Kane has a good record against he is one of the best premium picks for Gameweek 1.

Son Heung-Min £12.0m

Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min will unsurprisingly cost FPL managers more of their budget in the 2022/23 season. However, the midfielder appears to be one of the best premium picks ahead of Gameweek 1.

Alongside Kane, Son will face Southampton in Gameweek 1. Son’s biggest ever FPL return came against Southampton in Gameweek 2 of the 2020/21 season. Son returned 24 FPL points for his owners, from four goals and two bonus points. Son averages 7.71 points per match at home against Southampton. He has only failed to return FPL points in one of his seven Premier League appearances at home against the Saints.

Son also returned 10 points in Gameweek 1 last season. Spurs faced Man City and Son scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory for the North London team.

At the end of the 2021/22 season Son was in fantastic form and FPL managers will expect this to continue in to the new campaign. His record against Southampton as well makes him one of the best FPL assets for Gameweek 1.
