Best players for Gameweek 5

The new round of Premier League is ahead. With that in mind and with the help of Fantasy Football Scout, we have dug into the data and plucked out some of best player v team stats to reveal the best players for Gameweek 5.

Taking a look back at the head-to-head data to find some of the best players for Gameweek 5 could be really helpful to managers. Picking out assets who have great records against their upcoming opponent can help with transfers, captaincy and even chip strategy.

Mohamed Salah v Wolves

Liverpool have started the season very well in terms of results. In fact in the first four matches they have won three and drawn one whilst remaining unbeaten. In contrast to their upcoming opponents Wolves whom lost three of their first four games.

One player who could take advantage of the Wolves form is Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). As we can see between 2018-2021 the Egyptian bagged four returns in eight of his matches against them. He also scored against them last season.

Ollie Watkins v Crystal Palace

Aston Villa have had a mixed start to the season – beating both Everton and Burnley but losing to the likes of Newcastle and Liverpool. Amongst the goals they did score was Ollie Watkins (£8m). The striker managed three returns in his first four games and has an interesting tie coming up.

Watkins faces Crystal Palace in Gameweek 5, a team who as we can see below he has had success against. In the four matches he played against them between 2020-2021 he bagged three returns including one goal and four assists.

Bruno Fernandes v Brighton

Manchester United have had a turbulent start to their campaign – beating Nottingham Forest and Wolves but losing to Arsenal and Tottenham. The Reds face a free-scoring Brighton side in Gameweek 5 but Manchester United are not short of goals themselves.

Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) seems to have a solid record against Brighton recently. Between 2019-2021 Fernandes played five matches against them and managed an impressive four returns. What makes it even better is that three of those four returns were double-digit hauls as we can see below.

James Maddison v Sheffield United

Tottenham have been a fantastic watch so far this season and one of the most consistent scoring teams already – scoring two or more goals in all of their early matches. One of the biggest contributors to that was new signing James Maddison (£7.8m).

Maddison has already racked up three returns in his first four matches but he could be set to extend that this week. As we can see, in the 23 matches he has played against newly promoted sides he has notched up a huge 14 returns. He also picked up a return against newly promoted Burnley in Gameweek 4.

Son Heung-min v Sheffield United

The Tottenham success could continue this week in the form of Son Heung-min (£9.1m). The midfielder has had a disappointing start to the campaign after three back-to-back blanks in his first three games but responded to his poor form by netting a hattrick in Gameweek 4.

Son is a very consistent FPL asset against newly promoted sides as we can see. In fact in the 24 matches he has played against them between 2017-2021 he has returned a whopping 19 times. His points consisted of 16 goals and nine assists.
