Best players for Gameweek 2

The new round of Premier League is ahead. With that in mind and with the help of Fantasy Football Scout, we have dug into the data and plucked out some of best player v team stats to reveal the best players for Gameweek 2.

Taking a look back at the head-to-head data to find some of the best players for Gameweek 2 could be really helpful to managers. Picking out assets who have great records against their upcoming opponent can help with transfers, captaincy and even chip strategy.

Gabriel Martinelli v Crystal Palace

Arsenal go into their Gamweek 2 match off the back of a 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 1. One of their top performers was midfielder Gabriel Martinelli (£8m) who bagged an assist and picked up five points in FPL.

As we can see from the graphic below in the four matches Martinelli played against Crystal Palace during 2019-2021 he collected two returns. What is even more significant is that in the last campaign the Brazilian managed 15 points in his two matches against Crystal Palace.

Ollie Watkins v Everton

Aston Villa fell victim to a 5-1 thrashing against Newcastle but striker Ollie Watkins (£8m) still found a way to return – he picked up five points for his assist. He could have huge potential in the round ahead as he faces Everton.

As we can see, between 2020-2021 Watkins banked one return in three matches against Everton. However last season was where he found most of his success – the striker collected a huge 17 points in two matches against the Toffees. Those points consisted of one goals and two assists.

Mohamed Salah v Bournemouth

Liverpool clashed with Chelsea in their opening round and the match finished in a tightly contested 1-1 draw. Amongst the returns was midfielder Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) who clawed away a five-point return but it could have been a lot more. The Egyptian faces Bournemouth in Gameweek 2.

In terms of Salah’ record against the Cherries, it’s very strong. In the six matches he faced Bournemouth between 2017-2019 Salah returned in all of them – scoring eight goals and creating one assist. Last season Salah failed to return in both of his matches against Bournemouth but with a record like the one below, Bournemouth’s luck may be about to run out.

Ben Chilwell v West Ham

Chelsea were poor for the first 35 minutes against Liverpool but quickly grew into the game to secure a 1-1 draw. One player who impressed was Ben Chilwell (£5.5m). The Chelsea left back was excellent throughout and picked up seven points for his assist and bonus.

Chelsea face West Ham in Gameweek 2. As we can see, in the two matches Chilwell has played against the Hammers he returned once – picking up a double digit return for his clean sheet and assist. Interestingly, last season he also managed to return 11 points against them after scoring and creating an assist.

Bruno Fernandes v Tottenham

Manchester United disappointed many in Gameweek 1, especially in terms of attacking assets. They squeezed a 1-0 win out of Wolves but the likes of Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) failed to return anything significant.

As we can see Fernandes has an impressive return rate against his upcoming opponent. In the four matches he played against them between 2019-2021 he picked up a return in three of them. If that wasn’t enough, last season Fernandes collected a huge 16 points in FPL. His points came from a goal and an assist.
