Best players for FPL Gameweek 9

The new round of Premier League is ahead. With that in mind and with the help of Fantasy Football Scout, we have dug into the data and plucked out some of best player v team stats to reveal the best players for FPL Gameweek 9.

Taking a look back at the head-to-head data to find some of the best players for FPL Gameweek 9 could be really helpful to managers. Picking out assets who have great records against their upcoming opponent can help with transfers, captaincy and even chip strategy.

Mohamed Salah v Everton

Liverpool have a great opportunity to extend their fantastic start to the new season. They come up against a struggling Everton next up who sit 16th in the league. The standout Liverpool option is Mohamed Salah (£12.6m).

As we can see in the graphic below between 2020-2021 Salah bagged a return in all but one of his games against the Toffees. Interestingly, Salah also picked up 14 points last season against them due to his goal.

Erling Haaland v Brighton

It’s been an awful start to the season from a Brighton point of view defensively. Although one of the top scoring teams in the league they are yet to keep a single clean sheet so far. This could mean huge potential for Erling Haaland (£14m).

The table below shows the highest returning players against Brighton last season. As we can see Haaland claimed a huge 18 points against them for his two goals and one assist. Can lightening strike again? And will Haaland break out of his mini-slump?

Bruno Fernandes v Sheffield United

Manchester United come up against Sheffield United this week. The Blades have conceded more goals than any other team so far this season but they’re also sustaining some extremely poor underlying defensive data too.

One player who could take advantage of that is Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m). Its been a tough start to the season for the midfielder but he has a very impressive record against promoted teams as we can see below. In fact, in the 14 matches he played against them between 2019-2021 Fernandes banked a return in eight of them. He also collected 31 points against promoted sides last season due to one goal and two assists.

Ollie Watkins v West Ham

It could be a tough game on paper for Aston Villa this week as they come up against the Hammers. Aston Villa have been in top scoring form however and a lot of that is due to the run striker Ollie Watkins is on (£8.1m).

Watkins has picked up more points than any asset in the game so far. From that we know he’s in top form but he also has a decent record against West Ham. In the three matches Watkins played against them between 2020-2021 he picked up a return in two of them. Watkins then extended his record against them last campaign scoring and collecting 10 points.

James Maddison v Fulham

Tottenham can’t be stopped at the moment as they go into their match against Fulham looking to increase their lead at the top of the Premier League. One of the biggest factors contributing to their top form is James Maddison (£8.1m).

The graphic below shows that in the three matches he played against Fulham between 2018-2020 Maddison bagged three returns and two double-digit hauls. He also had a great campaign against them last season scoring and assisting to collect nine points from just one game.
