Best picks from Liverpool for Double Gameweek 29
Liverpool play twice in Double Gameweek 29. So let’s assess their best FPL options ahead of matches against Brighton and Arsenal.
The champions of 2019/20 are relentlessly chasing Man City down and, as a result of seven successive victories, are now six points behind with a game in hand and a meeting with Pep Guardiola’s side still to come. So the title is in their own hands.
Top scorers throughout the Premier League, their defence has kept five clean sheets from their last seven outings. 15 in total. Therefore, the question for most FPL managers isn’t whether they should buy Liverpool players – it’s who should be their third one alongside Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Underlying Stats
Their two matches of Double Gameweek 29 are away trips to out-of-form Brighton and the same Arsenal they defeated 4-0 in Gameweek 12. The duo named above are the game’s highest two scorers so far, so it’s no surprise to see them dominate the stats. Alexander-Arnold is the creator of most chances after Bruno Fernandes, with an expected assists (xA) tally far ahead of the rest.
Attacking trio Salah, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota rank amongst the top four for expected goals (xG) and shots inside box.
However, a rotation threat now lingers for Mane and Jota since Luis Diaz arrived in January. This is why many FPL managers are doubling-up on Liverpool’s attacking defenders via Andrew Robertson.
Already up to ten assists – one behind Alexander-Arnold – despite playing 379 minutes fewer than his team mate, Robertson has created 17 chances during his last six matches. Amongst all positions, only Fernandes betters this.
Ownership for Double Gameweek
Robertson’s ownership has quadrupled since Gameweek 21 but only has 7.1% overall. It’s a larger amount within the top 10k.
Salah had over 100% effective ownership (EO) when playing once during an eight-team Double Gameweek. Therefore it will be much closer to 200% during their own of Gameweek 29. Those managers who plan to Free Hit during Gameweek 30 don’t need to worry about Liverpool’s blank and can look beyond that where they immediately face Watford (H).
