Best Free Hit team for Gameweek 27

The FPL Community is awash with chatter about Gameweek 27 and how to manage it. Lots of content creators have content on the best Free Hit team and Twitter has hundreds of teams being posted. We take a look at the best options for managers activating the chip.

The Free Hit chip is one of hate most versatile FPL chips managers have in their arsenal. It allows managers to target the best players for one specific Gameweek and then have their original team back for the following deadline. Blank Gameweeks can be the perfect opportunity to play a Free Hit as managers can field a full squad without multiple transfers. Liverpool and Arsenal, alongside Chelsea blank in Gameweek 27. Managers who Free Hit can use the budget from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah without having to sell them.

Twitter template Free Hit team

As FPL_Harriers hints in his tweet there is definitely a template forming with the Twitter Free Hit teams.

Across Twitter managers on a Free Hit are targeting the only team to play twice, Burnley. They are also selecting the key Premier League teams with the best fixtures this weekend:

  • Southampton v Norwich
  • Leeds v Tottenham Hotspur
  • Man United v Watford
  • Everton v Man City

This means that most of the Free Hit teams on Twitter contain three Burnley players as well as two or three players from each of Southampton, Spurs, Man United and Man City.

Differentiating a Free Hit team

Some FPL managers are looking to change their Free Hit teams to include some more differential picks. This can be a great way for managers to target the key players for the Gameweek as well as including a couple who could give a huge rank rise if they return.

FPL_WFC was impressed enough with Spurs’ new signing Kulusevski to bring him in on his Free Hit for the triple up on the Spurs attack.

Like Kulusevski, there are plenty of good differentials this weekend who could break the Free Hit template. FPL Family’s Sam discusses including James Ward Prowse in a Free Hit team in her latest video.

Making sure that FPL managers playing the Free Hit chip include one or two differentials seems wise.

Best Free Hit picks

We asked FPL Family’s Sam to share her thoughts on the best Free Hit team for this weekend.

Sam’s Free Hit picks for Gameweek 27

There are a few key players who FPL managers on a Free Hit will definitely want in their teams when Gameweek 27 begins. Targeting Burnley for their Double Gameweek will likely be key.

Nick Pope has been excellent in Double Gameweeks so far this season and my preferred Burnley strategy is a defensive double up. Having Pope alongside a defender as well as Weghorst upfront I think is the best way to invest in Burnley. All ears on Sean Dyche for news on Tarkowski as if he is still unwell then Pieters or Mee also look great picks.

Man City

Everton have been inconsistent since appointing Frank Lampard as manager. They have especially struggled defensively having kept only one clean sheet since Gameweek 12. Everton face Man City this weekend. Pep will want to ensure his side bounce back from defeat to Spurs in Gameweek 26 and therefore owning at least two Man City players is a wise strategy.

The difficulty with owning three Manchester City players is whether they will all be in Pep’s starting XI. Man City play Everton on Saturday, Peterborough in the FA on Tuesday, the Manchester derby a week on Sunday and then the Champions League the following Wednesday. This busy fixture period could mean rotation, although I think this is more likely to happen in the FA Cup match.

Sterling has started every Premier League match for Man City since Gameweek 21. HIs 29 points in the last three matches means that Sterling is my preferred midfield option at Man City. Joao Cancelo picks himself in defence for Free Hit and non Free Hit teams alike.

Spurs and Man United

There are three Spurs players in my Free Hit draft, although Eric Dier would be in the second bench spot. Owning both Kane and Son for Gameweek 27 will turn them into huge differentials. LiveFPL.net tells us that only 137 managers in the top 10k own both Son and Kane turning two popular assets in to better differential picks against those managers who are not free hitting.

Manchester United fixture against Watford is also appealing. Whilst they haven’t always passed the eye test or been in the best from Bruno Fernandes holds great appeal for Gameweek 27. Bruno has now returned back to back double digit hauls and has registered 20 more points this season than any other United player.

Southampton

For me Southampton are the perfect team to triple up on if you are playing your Free Hit. They are also a great team to target even if you are not playing the Free Hit chip. Livramento came back in to the starting XI last weekend and returned 12 points for FPL managers who played him. Alongside him I really like the attacking double up.

Broja is the cheapest playing forward option in the game and yet is one of the most attractive picks upfront also. Investing in him for Gameweek 27 looks an exciting prospect. I would also invest in the Saints captain James Ward Prowse. Ward Prowse is on penalties and may set pieces, as well as having returned 17 points in the last three Gameweeks. His 102 points this season make him Southamptons highest scoring player by 25 points. He is also third for influence and second for creativity amongst midfielders in the game.

Captaincy

This is one of the hardest decisions for FPL managers this week. Weghorst looks excellent, as he has good form going in to the double. He also has the benefit of the additional 90 minutes over most of the other FPL options this week. However every premium pick in this squad could also return well. I think Kane especially could be a fantastic captaincy option this weekend.
