We pick out the best budget players for Gameweek 2. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout fixture ticker and underlying stats we provide some of the best cheap players, whether that be goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders or forwards for the round ahead.
Finding some of the best budget players for Gameweek 2 can be extremely useful to FPL managers. Cheap players are vital when it comes to trying to fit in the more expensive options and can even be great standalone assets.
Fixtures
Below we can see the ticker in order of fixture difficulty. The teams at the top have the easiest fixtures and the teams at the bottom have the toughest fixtures.
Sheffield United
Sheffield United have a great opportunity to get points on the board this week. The Blades face Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 2. Although they survived relegation last season Forest conceded some poor defensive data. In fact, amongst all teams they were fourth worst for goals conceded (68), third worst for shots in the box conceded (386), the worst for shots in the box taken (238) and joint second worst for big chances total (50).
As we can see above, Nottingham Forest were poor both defensively and offensively. This gives the Sheffield United assets solid potential for the round ahead. One of the players we could consider is William Osula (£4.5m). The 20-year-old netted nine goals and registered one assist in his last four matches for Sheffield United’ U21’s. Osula also started in the Gameweek 1 so could be set to return for the next round.
Another great budget option could be George Baldock (£4m). Baldock scored in pre-season and his wing-back position means he can get into some of the most advanced positions on the pitch. He also has a great chance at a clean sheet.
Joao Pedro
Brighton have a good opportunity against Wolves this week after breezing past Luton with a 4-1 victory in the first round. In fact, Brighton were that good they dominated a lot of the key attacking data points. When compared to every other side in Gameweek 1 they ranked second for goals scored, first for attempts on goal (27), first for shots in the box (20) and joint first for shots on target (12).
Whilst many will go for fairly priced options like midfielders Solly March (£6.5m) and Kaoru Mitoma (£6.5m) some could invest up front. Joao Pedro (£5.5m) was fantastic in Gameweek 1 and although he picked up seven points for his penalty and bonus, his return could have been bigger. In terms of stats Pedro ranked second for penalty area touches in the opposition’ box (11), joint third best for shots in the box (four) and joint second best for big chances total (two) amongst all attackers.
Carney Chukwuemeka
Chelsea can take plenty of positives from their first match against Liverpool in Gameweek 1. After a poor start to the game that saw them concede they turned it around, applied major pressure on Liverpool and pinched the equaliser.
One player who many questioned in regards to gametime before the campaign started was Carney Chukwuemeka (£4.5m). The midfielder started against Liverpool in a number 10 role and he also looks set to start again against West Ham in Gameweek 2. Chelsea mustered up the third most big chances in the first round (five) so if they can maintain good threat, Chukwuemeka should benefit.
Alejandro Garnacho
Manchester United played Wolves in Gameweek 1. The Reds lacked offensively but still managed to squeeze a 1-0 victory. That may be the case but they ranked in the top half of the table for goals scored last season. With that in mind it could be a matter of time before their offensive line click.
Spurs lay ahead in Gameweek 2. Although tough on paper, Tottenham still managed to concede one of the worst big chance totals amongst all teams in the first round. This could be a great opportunity for Alejandro Garnacho (£5m). The youngster broke into the starting 11 against Wolves in Gameweek 1 and if he can maintain his gametime and start again this week he could have potential.
