Fresh from the FPL Launch for the 2020/21 season, the community provide their initial take ahead of another season of action.

Who are the key teams and players to target? Which players are underpriced and which are overpriced? It’s all covered.

I. Scout

Fantasy Football Scout kicked off the FPL launch reaction by starting the conversation on potential bargains in the game. There’s plenty of options to consider, with the general consensus that most players have been priced kindly this season. Constructing a squad should be very entertaining!

II. Editor

III. Physio

Fantasy managers have been very lucky over the past two seasons to be gifted a consistently starting £4.0 defender, in the shape of John Lundstram and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The FPL Physio appears to have unveiled the must have for this campaign, Crystal Palace defender Nathan Ferguson.

IV. WGTA

In a rare written article from Tom of Who Got The Assist? we are rewarded with the annual instalment of Talisman Theory. The most significant takeaway from this epic piece of analysis, is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s potential since his reclassification to a midfielder for the upcoming season.

VI. Tekkers

FPL Tekkers considers each Premier League side in turn and selects three player picks from each: essential, differential and enabler. It’s a very popular Twitter thread and provides some useful insight into the newly promoted clubs; Fulham, Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion.

VII. Freeman

Plenty of fantasy managers look at building their squads from the back and the goalkeeper slots always provide an interesting topic of conversation. Nick Pope has seen a significant rise in price to £5.5 million, but Eric Freeman is on the hunt for the goalkeeping gem for the upcoming season.

VIII. Sigurd

Player pricing has a huge bearing on the look of our squads for the opening gameweeks and it’s difficult to get the right balance across a team of 15 players. FPL Sigurd provides his eight tips for squad selection, with a blend of captaincy candidates, cheap goalkeepers and expected goals stars.

How to create the best team—my approach.

1. Get the two players you think have the best points expectancy, irrespective of price, from different teams. Captaincy justifies disregarding price on 2 players, but you will lose expected value if you overdo the high end premiums.

IX. Ssia

One element of pricing which certainly jumped out to the community on launch day was the wealth of options in defence priced at £4.5 million. Ssia identifies his favoured six defenders at this price point and ranks them. Once fixtures are released, it may become easier to separate these exciting options.

X. Planet

On the first episode of a new season for the Planet FPL podcast, Suj and James take a look at all 20 Premier League clubs and analyse the pricing for the new season. As part of the FPL launch reaction, the duo share their frustration on some of the decisions made, including Trent Alexander-Arnold’s price.

XI. Hopcroft

Finally, Adam Hopcroft uses form from Project Restart to identify bargains ahead of the new campaign. Michail Antonio was the standout budget player, but he is now a Forward in the game, with Mason Greenwood heading in the opposite direction. The Wolves full-backs excelled ahead of Trent.
