Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 1 Top Picks

Last modified date

The new season of German League football returns so we take a look at the Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 1 top picks. Bundesliga Fantasy expert and regular contributor @paramorenumetal reveals three of the best defenders, midfielders and forwards for the first round.

The Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 1 top picks can be extremely useful for managers. With lots of changes to the game this season it could be difficult to adjust for managers. But the following top picks can help you bring clarity to some of the decisions you have to make ahead of the deadline.

Defenders – Alejandro Grimaldo (20m / B04)

Grimaldo is a must-own after last season, where he became the highest scoring defender in the games history. His contributions were key in Leverkusen’s undefeated title-winning run. His consistency makes him a reliable choice. Leverkusen kick off their title defence in MD1 against Gladbach.

David Raum (15m / RBL)

Raum accumulated 10 G/A last season. Leipzig face Bochum at home in the first matchday, providing a favourable matchup. Raum will likely be in most teams come MD1 – and for good reason.

Mitchell Weiser (13m / SVW)

Coming through with 4% ownership is Werder Bremen’s key man, Mitchell Weiser. He was highly effective last season, contributing to 10 goals through a combination of goals and assists. Averaging a direct involvement every three games is an impressive feat for a defender, making him a standout choice.

His ability to impact both ends of the pitch adds significant value to Bremen, and with an opening match against Augsburg, he’s well-positioned to start the season strong.

Midfielders – Jamal Musiala (20m / FCB)

While Wirtz – and others – are tempting for this spot, Musiala’s higher ceiling cements his place in my team. I expect him to be the highest scoring midfielder for the first four MDs, and he’s still expected to play for Bayern, of course. He also scored three goals in five games at the Euros, showing his goal-scoring prowess at one of the highest levels.

Chris Führich (16m / VFB)

Chris Fuhrich was a key contributor for Stuttgart last season, registering 15 goals and assists in 33 starts. His consistent attacking output makes him a valuable asset, especially considering his ability to create and finish chances. With 7% ownership, he’s a popular pick, and although Stuttgart’s opening match is a tougher away game against Freiburg, Fuhrich’s form and reliability could see him continue to deliver.

Xavi Simons (17m / RBL)

RB Leipzig’s young talent, Xavi Simons, made a big impact last season with 19 goals and assists in 32 games. With nearly 20% ownership, he’s a popular choice among fantasy managers. Leipzig’s opening fixture is a home game against Bochum, offering a great chance for Simons to start the season strong and add to his impressive tally for the club.

Forwards – Loïs Openda (15m / RBL)

Openda is a bargain at 15m, especially considering he was the third highest scoring player (in terms of goals) last season. Leipzig’s opening fixture is against Bochum, who narrowly avoided relegation last season.

Harry Kane (20m / FCB)

Bayern Munich’s star striker, Harry Kane, entered the Bundesliga with huge expectations, and lived up to them. Last season, he racked up an incredible 44 goals and assists in just 32 games. With 43% ownership, he’s the most popular pick among fantasy managers. Arguably the best player in the league, Kane will look to make an impact as Bayern face Wolfsburg away in their opening match.

Andrej Kramarić (10m / TSG)

Kramarić is another under-priced forward, especially given his stellar form at the end of last season. Facing newly promoted Kiel at home offers a perfect chance to capitalise on his good form.
