Best and Worst Premium Players in 23/24

The latest FPL season has come to an end. So, it’s time to look back and reflect on some of the most important assets in the game. With that in mind, we take a look back at the Best and Worst Premium players in 23/24.

Checking out the best and worst premium players in 23/24 can be hugely helpful when looking ahead to the new season. Premium assets are the most expensive players in any given position. They also tend to be the most reliable in FPL.

Erling Haaland

Who better to begin with than the highest scoring player in the 21/22 season, Erling Haaland. The Norwegian was the most expensive premium in the game, coming at a whopping £14.3m. Although he failed to repeat the success of his previous season, Haaland still edged every other premium with 217 points.

Haaland managed at least one return in a huge 20 of his matches during his second successive title winning campaign. His biggest return came towards the end of the season against Wolves where he notched up 21 points after scoring four goals.

Son Heung-Min

Another successful premium player in the 23/24 campaign was Son Heung-Min (£10m). At the start of the season Tottenham had to adapt without Harry Kane’ seasonal tally of 20+ goals and they did just that with the help of new coach Ange Postecoglu.

The loss of Harry Kane to Bundesliga giants Bayern meant Son Heung-Min had to step up. The South Korean produced 17 goals and 10 assists in just 35 features resulting in a huge 213 points. That tally meant Son claimed the second highest most points for a premium player in 23/24.

Mohamed Salah

It was another successful season from Mohamed Salah (£13.4m). The Liverpool attacker may not have met everyone’s standards in his recent campaign but with 18 goals, 12 assists and 211 points you’ll unlikely find better consistency elsewhere in the game.

The Egyptian had to navigate several different factors this season from his long-term managers final season at the club to disappointing and underperforming teammates. So, to hit the numbers he did above is even more impressive.

Ben White

We also have players who started the season as mid-priced. But, due to performances, assets like Ben White (£6.1m) broke into the premium price-point.

Arsenal were a force to be reckoned with defensively during the 23/24 season, keeping 18 clean sheets, which was more than any other side. This helped Ben White to become the highest scoring defender in the game with a huge 182 points.

White didn’t claim all of his points from clean sheets however, his four goals and five assists also had a hand on his successful season.

Disappointing Premiums

Some premium players however really disappointed in 23/24 and one of them was Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m). The Liverpool full-back has hit heights of 200+ points in previous seasons but failed to get anywhere near that number this time around with 122 points.

One factor which negatively affected Trent last season was the fact he missed a huge 10 matches due to injury. Trent wasn’t the only player who disappointed with a big price-tag. In fact, Newcastle’ Kieran Trippier who ended the season at £6.6m and Liverpool’ Virgil Van Dijk (£6.6m) and Andy Robertson (£6.5m) all failed to make it amongst the top 10 highest scoring defenders.

Another player who was plagued with injuries this season and because of which disappointed was Kevin De Bruyne (£10.6m).

De Bruyne started just 15 of his sides 38 Premier League matches. Although that was the case, the Belgian still produced an impressive four goals and 10 assists, but it wasn’t enough to take him past the 100-point mark.
