UCL Fantasy Expert First Drafts for the Last 16

The Champions League has halted for now so we take a look at the UCL Fantasy expert first drafts for the last 16. Our expert managers reveal their first drafts, explain some of the rationale behind their picks, discuss the teams they want to target and even share their captaincy thoughts.

Taking a look at the UCL Fantasy expert first drafts for the last 16 can be absolutely essential for lots of different reasons. Knowing which players to buy, which teams to target, who to captain and more can be really helpful to gaining rank and an edge over our mini-league rivals.

Notes

  • A Haaland, Kane and Mbappe front three seems to be a lock. Though I am debating the idea of no Mbappe given he has the same captaincy day as Kane.
  • My draft is largely driven off the first two MD’s in order to avoid uncertainty of injuries over the weekend before the second 2 MD’s (though obviously this benefit will be removed for the second legs).
  • Saka is there for his captaincy day, but there may be more Arsenal in my draft before the deadline comes around.
  • Hummels and Acerbi likewise there for captaincy but the likes of Brandt, Morata, Griezmann are also options that may come in before the deadline.

Notes

  • For my first draft, I have kept things very simple and template or at least what I think would be template!
  • I’m not messing around with triple Bayern and Man City as I think both of those teams have very favourable draws on paper.
  • Mbappe is in there just because he’s the talisman for PSG. I still think Real Sociedad will give them a stern test though.
  • Bellingham and Thuram are two of the best assets in their price bracket so I chose them.
  • Saka is clearly the best Arsenal attacker to get so he was another straightforward pick.
  • Lastly the caveat here is that there is still over 1.5 months to the R16 matches and all lot can change especially with injuries, transfers etc over that period and nothing is set in stone.

Notes

  • Building a Ro16 draft is like going through a list of checkboxes to me. My main goal is to include players who I think will go on to the next stage. That way I can minimize the number of future transfers I may have to use just to make my team viable.
  • These players have the best fixtures and come from the best teams available (the likes of Bayern and City). This should help with getting high scores soon.
  • I like to have a premium goalkeeper who I think could go all the way to the final. My early thoughts are with (Ederson) paired up with a cheaper option. That way I can rotate both, but mostly so I can afford to spread the cash elsewhere. I also won’t need to use a transfer if they get eliminated.
  • I am keen on getting more players from Arsenal and Real Madrid (Saka, Odegaard, Lunin could be interesting options), but I’ll see later next month.
