The international break continues whilst Italian league football is paused. During the break it could wise to take a look back and reflect. In this article we take a look at @FPL_Crisk’ Serie A Fantasy season so far. Here we can see how our expert has performed during the season, what went right and what went wrong.

@FPL_Crisk’ Serie A Fantasy season so far can teach us a lot about how the game has played out this season but it can also give us some insight into how one of the best managers in the game will navigate the campaign moving forward.

Round 1

I started the season with this team. The plan was very simple. I wanted to get the best premiums for the first few games and build a team around them. Osimhen and Martinez were the main captaincy options. Theo and Bremer were supposed to be the backbone of a solid defence in which Schuurs (who turned out a great option) rotated pretty well with Mazzocchi (who instead didn’t work out at all).

In midfield I preferred Pulisic to Leao, correctly predicting him to get into form earlier, while Zaccagni was always supposed to leave the team very early on. Round 1 went pretty well (103 points) reaching immediately my final rank of the previous season, 1.2k.

Round 1-4

Since you can roll multiple transfers and I didn’t want to commit to an early WC like last season, I hoped that my draft could carry me in the first few weeks. It had its ups and down, but I managed to end the first “Quad” (Round 1-4) around 1.7k OR. If I could go back in time I would have had at least one Inter defender, which I didn’t because I felt uncomfortable with their rotation/minutes, but overall I’m ok with my choices.

Round 5+

Starting with Round 5, I started making transfers and I immediately tried to strenghten my defence getting Atalanta’s Scalvini and Bologna’s Kristiansen (very cheap at 4.2). The Danish leftback had its moment to shine in the infamous Round 7, when I gave him the captaincy and got me 18 points (exactly as I expected).

It would have sounded more impressive if I didn’t miss out on giving the armband to Lautaro, which at least I started gaining his 23 points. By the end of Quad 2 (Round 5-8), I brought in Colpani and Soule, two very cheap midfielders who are performing very well and are allowing me to climb back to around my Round 1 rank after a couple of setbacks in late September. I also moved Pulisic to Leao, as I now expect the Portuguese to be more consistent than the American.

Looking ahead

With two free transfers available, I intend to move some injured players (Koopmeiners and Kristiansen) out of the team. I would have loved to have more freedom and make some other tweaks to the team, but the backbone of Osimhen, Lautaro, Leao and Chiesa is very solid and I think I will be able to navigate Quad 3 without needing to use the WC.
