Top three picks for Gameweek 35

David Munday is back with his top three picks for the upcoming gameweek. This week he takes a look at his top three picks for Gameweek 35.

Due to a series of midweek deadlines and ongoing Double Gameweeks, it has been some time since I was last able to pick out three Fantasy Premier League players for your consideration.

I’m writing this before Brighton host Man United on Thursday night. So I have deliberately avoided their assets, just in case of any big developments. But while I’ve got you, make sure you’re heavily invested in those teams. They’ve still got a total of three double gameweeks between them to come between now and the end of the season.

In the meantime, here are three players to consider for Gameweek 35. These picks have already got their Double Gameweek 34 exploits out of the way.

Callum Wilson

Callum Wilson (£7.0m) has always been a bit of a stat-buster in FPL. There was a time when he was shooting very rarely and yet still scoring with every shot. There were times when he was having a tonne of efforts on goal only to fail in making them count.

His latest trick? Posting incredible numbers and bagging the goals without actually being a guaranteed starter. That’s right, Wilson’s on fire, xMins crowd are terrified.

Across his last four matches the Newcastle striker has managed just 196 minutes from a possible 360. This includes just one start, and yet he has five goals and 31 points to his name. That’s 7.8 per game.

And the crazy thing is that when you ignore that minutes played stat, Wilson’s underlying numbers read like someone who is ready to turn his current output into something consistent.

In his last four, the former Bournemouth man has nine shots in the box, five big chances and seven shots on target. For the latter two stats, he’s in the Premier League’s top three over the same period. From just 196 minutes.

He’s also outperforming his colleague Alexander Isak (£6.9m). Isak has just seven shots in the box, one big chance and four shots on target, from 69 more minutes and two more starts over the same period.

What this means is you basically don’t have to worry about whether Wilson is going to start. This is great because I have absolutely no idea whether he will or won’t start against Arsenal.

While the Gunners are still in with an outside chance of claiming the Premier League title, their defence continues to be one of their weaknesses. In the last four matches, Arsenal have conceded nine goals (2.3 per game). They have also given up the fifth-most big chances, with an expected goals conceded (xGC) figure of 6.42.

In short, an Arsenal clean sheet isn’t looking all that likely. Wilson is one of the division’s in-form strikers right now. Should be points galore for anyone back this man.

Alex Moreno

I may have sold him on my Wildcard for some short term gains but I do think Alex Moreno (£4.5m) deserves to be back on the radar. It’s a decent fixture for Villa this weekend as they travel to Wolves for a Midlands grudge match. Despite the stakes of the fixture, there is no escaping Julien Lopetegui’s men do come into Gameweek 35 on the back of some poor offensive numbers.

They may have made some effort in recent weeks but it’s their lack of quality that is presenting them with a few problems in front of goal. Over the past four matches, no Premier League team has registered fewer big chances than the two created by Wolves. Meanwhile, over the same period, only two teams have conceded fewer shots in the box than Villa, whose goals shipped tally of two is the division’s best for the last four matches.

Enter Alex Moreno, the most eligible route into Unai Emery’s backline. Over the past four matches, no Villa defender can match him for key passes, shots in the box or expected goal involvement (xGI).

Eberechi Eze

Yeah, yeah, I know. I’ve written about him before but sometimes a player is doing so well that you have to write about him again. That’s an expression, right?

Since we first tipped Eberechi Eze (£5.5m) for greatness, he has more than delivered. It’s four goals and one assist since Gameweek 29 for the Crystal Palace man and he is showing no signs of letting up.

In his last four, Eze is in the Premier League’s top five for shots on target and ranks inside the division’s top 10 for key passes.

This week it’s a trip to a Spurs side that have been shipping goals for fun lately. Over their last four, they have given up more big chances than any other side and their xGC score of 9.40 is the second worst, behind only Nottingham Forest.
