The best captain for Gameweek 35

We find the best captain for Gameweek 35. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can use the season ticker and underlying stats to find the best captaincy option for the Gameweek ahead.

Captaincy is one of the most important decisions a manager can make in fantasy football. Writing up a shortlist of options can be helpful but picking out the best captain for Gameweek 35 can be even more important for FPL managers.

Fixture ticker

Below you can see teams near the top with the easier fixtures, going all the way down the table to teams with the tougher fixtures. The season ticker can be very helpful. However, won’t always give us the full story on which players make the best captaincy options.

The options – Erling Haaland

Manchester City now sit at the top of the league after a relentless run of form seeing them win nine of their last 10 matches. During that period the division leaders also netted a whopping 28 goal, averaging 2.8 goals scored per game. They have also maintained some of the best offensive stats all season.

Leeds lay ahead for Manchester City who are scrapping for survival. Defensively, when compared to every other team in the league, Leeds rank the worst for goals conceded (23) and the worst for big chances conceded (23). This paints a huge target on their back.

The player to take advantage of his opponents dire defensive stats is Erling Haaland (£12.4m). Amongst all players this season the Norwegian sits first for goals (35), first for shots in the box (102), and first for big chances total (53). Haaland faces Leeds and two ties against Real Madrid in a short period so monitoring the press conferences for some indication of his expected minutes will be key.

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool have finally found a top period of form this campaign. The Reds have won their last five consecutive league matches, notching up between three and six goals scored in four of those same games. They have also been sustaining some of the best attacking data in the league this season.

Brentford lay ahead for Liverpool who have had a really good campaign this season. However, amongst all teams in the league, they rank second worst for shots on target conceded (179), which is a very concerning stat.

Mohamed Salah (£13m) is in a great period of form in terms of FPL. The Egyptian has picked up five returns in his last six matches, including two double-digit hauls. Amongst all players in the last six matches Salah also ranks joint second for goals scored (seven), first for total attempt on goal (27), first for shots in the box (26) and joint second for big chances (nine).

Marcus Rashford

Manchester United have been having a solid campaign since their new manager took to the role. In fact, they sit fourth in the division, whilst also in a good position to secure Champions League football for next season. Offensively, in the last six Gameweeks amongst all teams they sit second best for attempts on goal (122), fourth for shots in the box (76) and fourth for shots on target (40).

The Reds face West Ham in Gameweek 35. The Hammers have been struggling this campaign and that is telling by the fact they are fighting for survival. West Ham have shown major defensive fragilities when facing an efficient offensive line. An example of this is the fact that they have conceded three or more goals against the likes of Brighton, Newcastle and Manchester City in their most recent period.

West Ham look like a team to target and there may be no-one better to do that with than Marcus Rashford (£7.2m). The winger has been fantastic this season, and more recently has banked four returns in his last five starts, including two double-digit hauls.

Points projections

We can see from Fantasy Football Scout’s points prediction tool that Erling Haaland tops the list with a projected points tally of 6.8 points. Not far behind him is Mohamed Salah in second with 6.5 points. Marcus Rashford resides bottom of the graphic with a projected points of four points.

Who is the best captain for Gameweek 35?

Although Marcus Rashford is a good option, both he and his team have been maintaining worse offensive stats than the other options. Mohamed Salah is also a good captain pick. However, his opponent have shown to be resilient when facing the big teams and could dampen Salah’s output.

Erling Haaland is the best captain for Gameweek 35. Not only is he facing the worst current defence in the league but he is also maintaining, with his team, some of the best attacking data. If we receive any news to suggest he may not start, then Mohamed Salah could then become the standout captaincy option for Gameweek 35.
