When should I play my final FPL chips?

FPL chips can be the difference between a fantastic and a mediocre season. For managers who still have some of their FPL chips left when to play them is going to be key. Here we look at the four gameweeks that are left and when these final FPL chips should be played.

There are only four gameweeks to go of the 2022/23 season. This means FPL managers will need to use their chips otherwise they will not be able to gain the benefits. Each gameweek has pro’s and con’s for using each of the FPL chips.

Gameweek 35

Triple Captain

Gameweek 35 is not a double gameweek and therefore the potential upside of this chip may not be as good this week. However, Man City do have an attractive home fixture against Leeds and therefore if managers did want to use the chip this week Haaland looks the best bet.

Wildcard

The Wildcard could be a great option in Gameweek 35. It would allow managers who played the chip now to ensure their teams are set up for the upcoming double gameweeks in Gameweek 36 and 37.

Free Hit

There is no real benefit of playing the Free Hit in Gameweek 35. Unless managers find themselves with a number of injuries and/or suspensions.

Bench Boost

Most managers will look to play their Bench Boost chip in a double gameweek. This allows managers to maximise the number of fixtures that their team will play. Gameweek 35 isn’t a double gameweek. However, if managers have multiple chips to play and have recently play Wildcard now could be a good option. For most managers waiting for Gameweek 36 or 37 will likely see a better use for the chip.

Gameweek 36

Triple Captain

Gameweek 36 see’s Brighton and Newcastle play twice. Brighton have two away games against Arsenal and Newcastle. Newcastle have a trip to Leeds followed by playing at home to Brighton. Neither sides have an obvious Triple Captain, however a differential punt on Mitoma, Isak or Trippier could be good for managers needing a real differential boost.

Wildcard

The Wildcard could be a great option in Gameweek 36. If managers do not have their Triple Captain or Bench Boost chips then playing the Wildcard would allow them to set up their teams for both Double Gameweek 36 and 37.

Free Hit

Managers who do not have many assets from Newcastle and Brighton could play their Free Hit in Gameweek 36. Doing this would allow them to maximise the double by having three players from each side as well as targeting the likes of Man United, Man City and Liverpool who have great single gameweek fixtures. However, managers would need to find a way to get those Brighton assets back in again for Gameweek 37 and their next double.

Bench Boost

Most managers will look to play their Bench Boost chip in a double gameweek. Therefore this could be the perfect week for the chip, especially if they are certain the whole squad is going to play and they have benching headaches.

Gameweek 37

Triple Captain

Gameweek 37 see’s Brighton, Chelsea, Man United and Man City play twice.

Erling Haaland or Marcus Rashford will likely be the stand out option for the Triple Captain chip if managers want to play it in Gameweek 37.

Wildcard

This feels like the last chance to play the Wildcard to get some good value out of it. Playing the chip now allows managers to really target the final two gameweeks of the season.

Free Hit

Managers who do not have many assets from Brighton, Chelsea, Man United and Man City could play their Free Hit in Gameweek 37. Doing this would allow them to maximise the double by having three players from Man United, Man City and Brighton as well as a Chelsea asset.

Bench Boost

Most managers will look to play their Bench Boost chip in a double gameweek. Therefore this could be the perfect week for the chip, especially if they are certain the whole squad is going to play and they have benching headaches.

Gameweek 38

Triple Captain

Gameweek 38 is not a double gameweek and therefore the potential upside of this chip may not be as good this week. However, it is the last opportunity for managers to play their final FPL chips and therefore it should be played. Therefore hand it to a player with something to fight for – relegation, the title, European football etc – in the final match.

Wildcard

If managers still have their Wildcard then play it to get the best final gameweek team. However, it seems a waste to play the chip this week.

Free Hit

Like the Wildcard if managers still have their Free Hit then they should play their final FPL chips to get the best final gameweek team.

Bench Boost

Most managers will look to play their Bench Boost chip in a double gameweek which Gameweek 38 is not. However, if managers still have the chip then play it in gameweek 38 to ensure that they have the benefit of the chip.
