Who played well in the Cup

It has been a busy week in Cup football whilst the Premier League has been on pause. Multiple teams from the English top tier have been in action so for that reason, we take a look at the players who played well in the Cup.

Taking a look at the players who played well in the Cup this week could be an important factor for Premier League Fantasy managers. Seeing which players are in form ahead of the deadline could help decide on captaincy, transfers and chip strategy.

Marcus Rashford

Charlton lay ahead for Manchester United in the FA Cup. It took them just over 20 minutes for midfielder Antony to hit the back of the net but they struggled to add to that until the introduction of Marcus Rashford (£7m).

Prior to the Cup match, Rashford scored in each of his last five matches for Manchester United. That great run continued against Charlton. The midfielder was fantastic as soon as he came on. Rashford looked sharp and moved intelligently and his brilliant positioning and finishing led to him scoring a brace in the last minutes of the game.

Miguel Almiron

Newcastle beat an out-of-form Leicester side in the Cup this week. Although they won comfortably 2-0, it could have been an even bigger victory. Newcastle were at it from the get go, threatening early on and dominating the the ball.

There were plenty of top performances but one that should be picked out is that of Miguel Almiron (£5.9m). The midfielder was non stop. From a high energy press to looking to constantly beat his man, Alimiron was great. His performance was rewarded with an assist after picking out and excellent through ball to make it 2-0.

Riyad Mahrez

Manchester City faced an inconsistent Chelsea this week. The match ended up in a huge 4-0 win as they dismantled the struggling side. Several of their players stood out but the performance of the game came from Riyad Mahrez (£7.5m).

The Algerian midfielder was the sharpest tool in the box and that was evident. His composure in the final third was unmatched and caused major issues down Chelsea’s right hand side. Mahrez was brilliant especially in front of goal as he netted twice to top off a man of the match performance.

Pascal Groß

Not many teams can stop Brighton from scoring at the moment. That was clear when they met with Championship side Middlesbrough. Brighton brought the noise and finished the game with an epic 5-1 victory.

Many within the community will be discussing the likes of Evan Ferguson and Kaoru Mitoma but one man that looked better than both was Pascal Groß (£5.6m). The midfielder ran the show from the start. Groß was one of the most creative players on the pitch and that was reflected in his four key passes. He was also a huge goal threat and had two shots on target. Groß finished the match with an assist and a goal showing multiple routes to points.
