The best FPL single Gameweek players
A double Gameweek is on the horizon. But whilst many focus on double Gameweek players, we take a look at some of the best single Gameweek players with the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area.
Double Gameweeks can be the most anticipated events in the Fantasy Premier League calendar. However, it would be wise to also consider some of the best single Gameweek players because with the right fixture and form, they could have as much or more potential than those with double Gameweeks.
Ivan Toney
Brentford have been in fine form as of late. They remain unbeaten in their last six matches in the Premier League whilst also beating the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool in the same period. Goals are aplenty as of late for Brentford, scoring two or more goals in all of their last five matches.
We can also see that in the last six matches amongst all team, Brentford rank joint fourth for goals scored (12). Only Brighton, Arsenal and Tottenham have bettered that total.
Brentford face Bournemouth in Gameweek 20. The newly promoted side have struggled defensively this season. In fact, amongst all teams in the last six matches, they rank the joint worst for goals conceded, the third worst for shots in the box and the joint second worst for total attempts on goal. This could indicate that they are a team to target.
The standout option from Brentford is without a doubt Ivan Toney (£7.4m). The striker has bagged 12 goals and three assists this season, totalling 15 goal contributions in 16 matches. His form could be too hard to ignore but monitoring news of his recent injury could be key if looking to invest. Toney has to be considered as one of the best single Gameweek players out there.
Kaoru Mitoma
Using the same graphic above, we can see that no team in the league in the last six matches have scored more goals than Brighton (17). This could be a huge indicator that investing in the Brighton attack could be very beneficial to FPL managers.
Brighton face Liverpool in Gameweek 20, which namesake alone, could put managers off. However, only Leeds have conceded more big chances than Liverpool amongst all teams in the last six matches. This shows that there are defensive fragilities to take advantage of.
Kaoru Mitoma (£4.9m) had a fantastic World Cup campaign with National side Japan and that form has translated into the Premier League. The midfielder has hit three goals and one assist in his last five matches. On top of that, we can see that he ranks joint second for big chances total in the last six matches, amongst all midfielders.
The Brighton attack is in top form and Mitoma might just be the most cost effective route into the front line. It is also worth noting that there is a strong possibility Brighton have a double Gameweek coming up, so investing soon could be hugely beneficial.
Newcastle assets
It could be very important to not overlook one of the best sides in the league this season. Newcastle have been the surprise package so far, sitting third in the Premier League. They have been impressive all over the pitch so there are plenty of assets managers could be interested in.
Defence
We can see that amongst all teams in the league this season, Newcastle rank first for clean sheets kept and goals conceded. Buying into the Newcastle backline could be absolutely key.
Some of the better options include fullback Kieran Trippier (£6m). Amongst all defenders in the league this season, he ranks first for crosses, successful crosses, chances created and big chances created. As well as that, Trippier is also the highest scoring defender in the game.
Another cheaper option is Sven Botman (£4.4m). The centre back has proven to be one of the best value assets in the game and the fact he has returned in seven of his last 10 matches reflects that. Some could also choose goalkeeper Nick Pope (£5.4m). The Englishman has collected four back-to-back returns, including a double-digit haul in his most recent match.
Attack
Newcastle also rank in the best five teams for goals scored, shots in the box and total attempts on goal. They face a Fulham side who have conceded more big chances this season than any other team in the league. This could highlight Fulham as a team to target.
The standout option in the Newcastle attack is Miguel Almiron (£5.9m). The midfielder sits as the highest scoring midfielder in the game (106 points). In addition, amongst all midfielders, he ranks first for goals scored (nine).
