Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 7?

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 7.

Recent FPL goals

Some attackers are in great form over their last four matches:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over their last four league appearances:

  • No more than one goal
  • At least nine shots
  • An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.00
  • An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.20

Due a goal in Gameweek 7

Despite being sold by over 340,000 managers this week, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) is most due a goal. It has been a slow start by his standards, considering his incredible beginning to last season. Three of his last five matches have been FPL blanks – including the infamous 9-0 win over Bournemouth – with the late goal at Man United and assists against Newcastle almost adding to it.

Ranked by xG

Considering the insane start to Erling Haaland‘s (£12.0m) time in England, many are wondering whether it’s worth keeping Salah if he won’t be captained.

Darwin Nunez (£8.9m) is back from suspension and finds himself in this table despite playing just 174 minutes over three matches. However, rotation affects his appeal given the return of both Diogo Jota (£8.9m) and Champions League action.

Elsewhere, cheap £5.0m midfielders Solly March and Miguel Almiron have good underlying stats. The Brighton man is being overshadowed by several midfield teammates but, with Newcastle’s fixtures set to improve from Gameweek 8, Almiron is an interesting differential enabler.

Arsenal trio Bukayo Saka (£7.8m), Gabriel Jesus (£8.1m) and Gabriel Martinelli (£6.5m) are included too. Recently overtaken by Haaland as the most-selected FPL player, some managers are starting to risk going without Jesus, having only once returned more than six points from a match.

Perhaps they should wait until after Sunday’s Everton match. During his time at Man City, the Brazilian netted eight times from nine outings against the Toffees.
