Top three picks for FPL Gameweek 6

Every week David Munday will be sharing his top three picks for the Gameweek with us. Ahead of the first deadline of the season, David shares his top three picks for FPL Gameweek 6.

Gameweek 5 may have been a hit or miss round for many Fantasy managers. But the quick turnaround can do us all plenty of favours. If you did well, it’s a chance to quickly keep up the momentum. If you didn’t, then it’s an opportunity to immediately turn things around.

That said, I don’t particularly look at my team right now. I think it needs major surgery and I know I’m not the only one. There are tales across the Fantasy-verse of managers burning their transfers, something I would never do.

The frustrating thing is a lot of the teams with good fixtures on the horizon aren’t showing too much form to back it up. Which is why something as supposedly “dull” as a goalkeeper transfer could be the place to start. Here are my top three picks for FPL Gameweek 6.

DEAN HENDERSON

As many of you will know, I’m a big fan of a quality budget goalkeeper playing in a rather obliging defence. It means that when they keep a clean sheet, there should be plenty of saves and bonus points on top. And, in the case of Dean Henderson (£4.6m), penalty save potential too. Thus far, the Nottingham Forest man tops the Premier League for saves (25). Crucially, his aptitude for making high-quality saves remains the best in the division too with an expected Goals (xG) Prevented figure of +1.20. Despite only keeping one clean sheet thus far, Gameweek 5 is the only week in which Henderson has scored fewer than three points, producing six per match thus far. And it is worth pointing out that Forest’s schedule is about to ease up. When you sort the Fantasy Football Scout Season Ticker by defensive difficulty over the next six Gameweeks, Steve Cooper’s men rank second.

ALEKSANDAR MITROVIC

Just one blank in five matches is enough to put Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.7m) at the top of everyone’s transfer lists. And it looks as if his form could continue even through some fixtures that look difficult on paper. Firstly, the Fulham man’s form is underpinned by some impressive underlying statistics. After five matches, he is joint top of the league for shots on target with Erling Haaland, having registered just two fewer efforts in the box than the Manchester City counterpart. While Spurs have conceded just four goals so far this season, the joint-second-best, they do have one area of the pitch in which they’re quite obliging: the centre. They have conceded 30 chances through the middle this season, the most of any team in the Premier League. And a Gameweek 7 meeting with Chelsea should inspire no fear in Mitrovic owners. Thomas Tuchel’s men have given up 14 big chances after five matches, the joint-second-worst so far. Then after those two matches, which might actually put off potential investors, Fulham face Nottingham Forest (away) and Newcastle (home).

HARRY KANE

I am continuing to back Harry Kane (£11.4m) despite a slightly underwhelming Gameweek 5 haul against West Ham. The Spurs forward remains one of the Premier League’s most accurate players with 10 shots on target to his name thus far (second best). Meanwhile, he has also created 10 chances and fashioned two big chances, each stat good enough for the division’s top 10. Up next is a Fulham side that, despite getting the results, are not keeping clean sheets too often just yet. In fact, only Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace have given up more big chances over the first five matches as the Cottagers.
