Best asset to triple up on Liverpool with

With Liverpool’s great run of fixtures to start the season many FPL managers will be looking to triple up on the Reds. The FPL community have been discussing who makes the better pick Diaz or Robertson. We compare the two players.

Many FPL managers see Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold as essential FPL picks. With many managers locking in those two choices ahead of the new season filling the third spot is more challenging. Managers could chose to double up on the Liverpool attack or indeed the Liverpool defence.

Robertson v Diaz

Fighting for that third spot in our fantasy teams after Salah and Trent will likely be Diaz and Robertson. Both of course play different positions and both offer different routes to points.

Route to points

Robertson has more routes to points with clean sheets, combined with assists and even goals, Robertson has the edge in that respect. Whereas Diaz only has the ability to create assists and score goals with the additional point for keeping a clean sheet.

Expected data per 90

In terms of expected data per 90 minutes, Diaz claimed a 0.55 expected goal involvement where Robertson had an average of 0.25. Diaz was always going to be clear here but there’s an argument that the gap between should be even bigger than what it is.

Total points per 90

Total Points returned was interesting. Diaz managed 5.97 points per 90 minutes last season where as Robertson averaged 6.59 points returned per 90 minutes. Robertson came out the winner here which is a key factor when comparing them both.

FPL price point

Price point also has to take a bit part in the decision. Robertson at £7m and Diaz at £8m shows a £1m difference, with Robertson being cheaper. Again Robertson does appear more attractive as an asset in this instance.

Other options

One factor does go against Robertson. The fact that there is lots of great options at the back this season means that some managers may go for Diaz over Robertson.

Community chatter

Holly believes Robertson is the best third Liverpool option and asks why FPL managers are sleeping on him.

However, with Liverpool losing 4-0 to Man United in preseason FPL False 9 believes that Diaz is the better third pick.

Conclusion

Expected data, points per 90 minutes and price all favour having Robertson over Diaz. There is an argument that Diaz could thrive even more with more minutes but it isn’t proven.

Diaz could still be a fantastic option but most data points towards Robertson taking that third Liverpool spot in our teams.
