Who is popular ahead of Gameweek 38?

Markus Lindvall has been assessing the FPL transfer markets ahead of Gameweek 38. He takes a look at who is popular ahead of Gameweek 38, who isn’t and why.

Top Transfers in

Below are the top five transfers in so far. These are the players proving popular ahead of Gameweek 38.

Son Heung-Min (£11.1m)

Son has been one of the best FPL assets lately with double digit hauls in five of his last eight Gameweeks. The midfielder faces an already relegated Norwich team in the final Gameweek of the season. This makes a Son a great transfer in as well as a good captaincy pick, especially with the race for the Golden Boot so close.

Jarrod Bowen (£6.8m)

Recently Bowen has been flying under the radar in FPL as a result of other teams having Double Gameweeks. West Ham and Bowen had also prioritised the Europa League ahead of their exit from the competition. However with three goals and three assists in his last three outings Bowen is back on the FPL radar. Bowen scored twice against Man City in Gameweek 37, this form should make him a good pick against Brighton in Gameweek 38.

Kevin De Bruyne (£12.1m)

His four goals against Wolves in Gameweek 36 just shows how huge returns this man is capable of. Man City need to win their final game of the season to ensure that they win the Premier League title. This makes De Bruyne highly motivated and therefore a good pick and a good captain option against Aston Villa too.

Harry Kane (£12.4m)

Probably the best forward on paper in Gameweek 38 together with Leicester’s Jamie Vardy. Like Son, Kane faces an already relegated Norwich in the final Gameweek of the season. This makes Kane a nice captain option as well.

Luis Diaz (£8.1m)

Diaz takes almost as many shots as Salah and has lately given more value for the money than the Egyptian. After getting a rest in Gameweek 37 Diaz will hopefully start in Gameweek 38. He therefore could be worth a transfer in, especially if Salah remains unavailable, with Liverpool needing to win their final match. However, I believe De Bruyne and Son should be prioritised in the midfielder slots.

Top Transfers out

Below are the top five transfers out so far. These are the players who aren’t popular ahead of Gameweek 38.

Mo Salah (£13.1m)

Salah is currently flagged in the game and missed Gameweek 37 through the injury sustained in the FA Cup. Whilst the Egyptian remains a doubt for Gameweek 38 it seems unlikely that Klopp would risk Salah if not fully fit ahead of the Champions League final. Salah might make an appearance in Gameweke 38 but we won’t know for sure until Klopp’s press conference and other premium assets look like better picks.

Emmanuel Dennis (£5.8m)

Dennis has a knee injury and therefore is unlikely to play in Gameweeek 38. Watford also face Chelsea in Gameweek 38 making returns for Watford assets highly unlikely.

Virgil Van Dijk (£6.8m)

Just like Salah, van Dijk is a doubt for Gameweek 38. The centre back missed Gameweek 38 through a calf injury and Liverpool do have good Centre Back to cover if required. This makes me think he might get rested in Gameweek 38 even if fit, ahead of the Champions League final.

Philippe Coutinho (£7.1m)

Coutinho and Aston Villa face a tip to the Etihad to play Man City on the final day of the season. On paper this is the worst fixture of the season and Villa sit bottom of the Fantasy Football Scout members area. However, with his ties to Liverpool and having just committed his future to Villa, if anyone were to sink Man City on the final day he might just be the one. He does seem an easy sell in FPL though, with other midfielders having more attractive fixtures.

Kai Havertz (£7.9m)

Havertz is a doubt for Gameweek 38 with a hamstring injury. However with an attractive fixture against Watford I would suggest waiting for further updates from Thomas Tuchel before transferring out the midfielder. A move to team-mate Mount looks promising if Havertz is ruled out.
