Transfer Window FPL round-up

The January transfer window closed at 11pm last night, here is a round-up of each club’s main transfers alongside thoughts on how it will affect their FPL potential.

ARSENAL

OUT – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Barcelona), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Roma, loan), Sead Kolasinac (Marseille), Calum Chambers (Aston Villa), Pablo Mari (Udinese, loan)

FPL OPINION: Squad depth has disappeared for Mikel Arteta but the departure of Aubameyang could ensure more minutes for Gabriel Martinelli (£5.4m).

ASTON VILLA

IN – Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona, loan), Lucas Digne (Everton), Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Robin Olsen (Roma, loan)

OUT – Anwar El Ghazi (Everton, loan), Matt Targett (Newcastle, loan), Keinan Davis (Nottingham Forest, loan), Wesley (Internacional, loan)

FPL OPINION: A contender for most impressive January window, Coutinho (£7.0m) and Digne (£5.1m) have immediately put themselves on the radar for FPL managers. Loaning out Targett is questionable.

BRENTFORD

IN – Christian Eriksen (unattached), Jonas Lossl (Midtjylland)

OUT – Charlie Goode (Sheff Utd, loan)

FPL OPINION: Regardless of team, football fans are delighted to see Eriksen back in the game and – although it may take time to gain match fitness – he could yet find himself in some teams for Brentford’s good run of games. Could increase the appeal of Ivan Toney (£6.6m) and Bryan Mbeumo (£5.3m).

BRIGHTON

IN – Kacper Kozlowski (Pogon), Deniz Undav (Union SG)

OUT – Kacper Kozlowski (Union SG, loan), Dan Burn (Newcastle), Aaron Connolly (Middlesbrough, loan), Kjell Scherpen (Oostende, loan)

FPL OPINION: Burn was sold without a replacement, so Shane Duffy (£4.1m) could be back in the line-up.

BURNLEY

IN – Wout Weghorst (Wolfsburg)

OUT – Chris Wood (Newcastle)

FPL OPINION: On paper, this is a like-for-like switch. Burnley have four games in hand, so there may feasibly be a time when Weghorst becomes an option.

CHELSEA

FPL OPINION: Nothing.

CRYSTAL PALACE

IN – Jean-Philippe Mateta (Mainz)

FPL OPINION: Quiet from Palace, although the loan of Mateta (£5.2m) was made permanent.

EVERTON

IN – Vitaliy Mykolenko (Dynamo Kyiv), Nathan Patterson (Rangers), Anwar El Ghazi (Aston Villa, loan), Donny van de Beek (Man United, loan), Dele Alli (Tottenham)

OUT – Lucas Digne (Aston Villa)

FPL OPINION: Deadline day brought two major signings plus a new manager. If Frank Lampard can rekindle the past glories of Alli (£6.2m), it could be a masterstroke. Mykolenko (£5.0m) replaces Digne, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s (£7.9m) place isn’t under threat but we don’t yet know if Lampard rates Demarai Gray (£5.5m).

LEEDS

FPL OPINION: Nothing.

LEICESTER

OUT – Filip Benkovic (released)

FPL OPINION: Nothing.

LIVERPOOL

IN – Luis Diaz (Porto)

OUT – Nat Phillips (Bournemouth, loan), Neco Williams (Fulham, loan)

FPL OPINION: The huge question is how does the big-money arrival of Diaz affect Diogo Jota (£8.4m) and Sadio Mane (£11.7m)? Whilst Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) may still be prone from rotation, the combination of Diaz’s arrival and Roberto Firmino’s (£8.7m) return from injury will cast doubt over the other two.

MAN CITY

IN – Julian Alvarez (River Plate)

OUT – Ferran Torres (Barcelona), Julian Alvarez (River Plate, loan)

FPL OPINION: Alvarez is straight back to River and Torres has been injured for months. Nothing of note here.

MAN UNITED

OUT – Anthony Martial (Sevilla, loan), Axel Tuanzebe (Napoli, loan), Amad Diallo (Rangers, loan), Donny van de Beek (Everton, loan)

FPL OPINION: Several first-team outgoings but nothing that affects the main guys Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) and Bruno Fernandes (£11.7m).

NEWCASTLE

IN – Bruno Guimaraes (Lyon), Kieran Trippier (Atletico Madrid), Chris Wood (Burnley), Dan Burn (Brighton), Matt Targett (Aston Villa, loan)

OUT – Freddie Woodman (Bournemouth, loan), Matty Longstaff (Mansfield, loan), Jeff Hendrick (QPR, loan)

FPL OPINION: Newcastle were the stars of this window, with dozens of new names linked every day. Persuading Guimaraes (£5.0m) and Trippier (£5.0m) to move are massive coups, with Burn (£4.4m) and Targett (£4.7m) hoping to help improve their leaky defence. Having just kept a clean sheet at Leeds, maybe their back line could be worth an investment for their good run of games, although it’s risky. Despite adding Wood (£6.7m), supporters will be disappointed not to have added more attacking talent in their quest to escape relegation. Too much still depends on Allan Saint-Maximin (£6.7m) and Callum Wilson (£7.2m), when he returns.

NORWICH

OUT – Todd Cantwell (Bournemouth, loan), Onel Hernandez (Birmingham, loan)

FPL OPINION: The decline of Cantwell (£5.3m) has been unfortunate to see, to the point where they felt able to loan him out to the Championship.

SOUTHAMPTON

OUT – Sam McQueen (retired)

FPL OPINION: Nothing.

TOTTENHAM

IN – Rodrigo Bentancur (Juventus), Dejan Kulusevski (Juventus, loan)

OUT – Dele Alli (Everton), Tanguy Ndombele (Lyon, loan), Bryan Gil (Valencia, loan), Giovani Lo Celso (Villarreal, loan)

FPL OPINION: A very busy deadline day for Antonio Conte, with four midfielders out and two in. The roles of Harry Kane (£12.3m) and Son Heung-min (£10.6m) won’t be affected, although those with Lucas Moura (£6.5m) might be tempted to move on should Kulusevski prove to be a hit.

WATFORD

IN – Hassane Kamara (Nice), Samir (Udinese), Edo Kayembe (Eupen), Samuel Kalu (Bordeaux)

OUT – Pontus Dahlberg (Gillingham, loan)

FPL OPINION: Not much of an FPL impact expected here, with two additions to a defence that is yet to clean sheet and Kalu (£5.0m) likely a back-up option.

WEST HAM

FPL OPINION: Nothing.

WOLVES

IN – Chiquinho (Estoril), Hwang Hee-chan (RB Leipzig)

OUT – Adama Traore (Barcelona, loan)

FPL OPINION: The loan of Hwang Hee-chan (£5.4m) was made permanent, with Chiquinho (£5.5m) in to replace the departing Traore. With Wolves’ lacking in goals at either end, most were likely without their talent anyway.
