Notes

  • This is my first draft.
  • We’ll have at best nine transfers to correct the team before the start of the quarter finals in case of possible upsets.
  • There are not many £9m+ premiums left (Kane, Mbappe, Messi, CR7/Bruno, Neymar), focus on the three you would think have the best chance to haul during this round.
  • Bruno allows me to have a third option at striker, where we have more useful players available: in my case I went Richarlison to cover Brazil because I already have Messi, but it could have easily been Neymar and Alvarez if I needed money.
  • I feel like at least two players from France, Argentina, Brazil are a must. But also, don’t force them into the team if you don’t feel like taking the best out of them (example France and Brazil amazing but most their useful players are strikers or defenders. So, I don’t feel like forcing a midfielder from them just to have a triple up).
  • I probably won’t take punts on teams less likely to qualify. I really feel we have enough transfers to play safely. But if I had to take a wild guess, I would say Switzerland (if they have qualified when you’re reading this) could be the dark horse and could offer one hidden good option somewhere (Rodriguez, Widmer, Sommer or Shaqiri).

Notes

  • Playing power captain this week.
  • Expect a lot of high scoring games and now we have more budget to fit premiums, so I think I am in good position to hit double digit haul with captaincy.

  • Double Brazil and Argentina defence as I think they’re two of the best defences in the tournament and have a favourable run until the semi-finals.
  • The front three pick themselves.
  • The midfielders I’m not too concerned about as I don’t think there’s that many outstanding options, so I’ve just gone with the team projections on these.

Notes

  • Double up on the best defence in the competition and their number nine with the easiest route to the final in my opinion.
  • Picking players based on longevity in the competition.
  • Perisic is the only player that doesn’t fit this tactic, but his explosiveness and my four transfers can help with that, even if Croatia go through.
  • Mbappe and Richarlison are my captains.

Notes

  • My plan for the last 16 is to focus on teams who I think will progress the farthest in the tournament i.e. – Argentina, France, Portugal and Brazil.
  • Forward line picks itself, all three will be heavily owned come the start of the knockout stages.
  • Midfield is where you can have a bit more fun with punts and this is where you will gain rank in my opinion.
  • Noppert at £4.5m is the best budget goalkeeper option for the last 16.
  • In defence I am going with attacking full backs who can get a goal contribution.
  • Lastly captaincy will be between Messi and Mbappe.
