Notes

  • I think you need a goalkeeper on both sides of the draw, and since they are two of the favourites, England’ Hannah Hampton and Spain’ Adriana Nanclares make the cut.
  • Defence holds plenty of double-ups. As mentioned, Spain and England are two of the best teams remaining so doubling up with England’ Lucy Bronze and Spain’ Ona Batlle could be wise. Sakina Karchaoui is the France penalty taker, which makes her essential this week for me.
  • I’m backing Italy in their tie against Norway. I’m not keen on either side, so I’m taking a punt with a double up of Elena Linari and Lisa Boattin. Norway have been very ropey defensively and picking their midfielders has been frustrating, so I’m backing against them.
  • Spain dominate the midfield with Mariona Caldentey, Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas. I tried having a striker but there was a hole when taking out one of those three.
  • France don’t have many midfield options, Sweden’ are hit and miss and Norway’ are annoying. So, even though I think France will win, Jule Brand makes the team due to her relentless form. Penalty taker Georgia Stanway also takes her place in the team to get more England cover.
  • If I could take all three of France’ forwards I would. They have looked brilliant offensively, so I have added Delphine Cascarino and Marie-Antoinette Katoto. I will be kicking myself for leaving out Belmonte right up until deadline. I mean I could have all three, but I think not owning England’ Alessia Russo at this point would be a major problem.
  • Four different game days means four different captains this week, mine will likely be: Linari, Russo, Putellas, and then Cascarino.
  • Good luck!
