Wolves Top Picks for FPL 2024/25

Last modified date

Fantasy Premier League has launched for another season. For that reason we continue to cover each team in the build up to the start of the new campaign. In this article we take a look at the Wolves Top Picks for FPL 2024/25

Picking out the Wolves top picks for FPL 2024/25 could be really helpful for managers. Wolves could be one of several teams with the potential to offer some great value for money assets this season, so let’s see what we can find.

Wolves were an exciting watch under new manager Gary O’Neil last season. Their efforts may have seen them secure just 14th in the league but they also finished the campaign a mammoth 20 points above the drop zone and just three points off a top 10 finish.

24/25 Starting Fixtures

Below we can see the Fantasy Football Scout Fixture Ticker. We can also see that Wolves sit rock bottom of the ticker with fixtures against Arsenal, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Liverpool.

Wolves Defence

Wolves struggled to maintain any defensive consistency last season and that is reflective in their metrics as they rank (best):

  • 13th – Goals conceded
  • 15th – Expected goals conceded
  • 15th – Clean sheets kept
  • 15th – Total shots in the box conceded
  • 15th – Total attempts on goal conceded
  • 15th – Big chances total
  • 17th – Shots on target conceded

Comparing the Wolves Defensive Assets

When comparing the Wolves defensive assets we can see that Max Kilman, who has now left the club, played the most minutes with 3420.

The only other defender to rack up 3000+ minutes was full-back Nelson Semedo (£4.5m) with 3077. Goalkeeper Jose Sa (£4.5m) played 3035 minutes between the sticks.

Left-back/centre-back Toti Gomes (£4.5m) played the fourth most minutes with 2793 whilst left-back Ait Nouri (£4.5m) managed 2333 minutes. Centre-back Craig Dawson (£4.5m) was the only other defensive player to play more than 2000 minutes.

Toti Gomes and Ait Nouri were the most dangerous defenders in the Wolves backline last season after collecting five attacking returns a piece.

Kilman, Semedo and Dawson all banked two goal contributions during the 23/24 campaign.

Incredibly goalkeeper Jose Sa managed to create an assist.

Additional Notes

Max Kilman was evidently crucial for the Wolves defence last season but has since transferred to West Ham.

Right-back Nelson Semedo isn’t expected back from injury until September 15th so he won’t be an option early on.

Conclusion

Injuries and changes at the back, along with poor defensive data last season and tough starting fixtures could suggest that avoiding the Wolves defence early on a wise move.

However, for those still looking for a Wolves defender then the standout could be Rayan Ait-Nouri who had good attacking threat last season. Ait-Nouri has also started two of the first three pre-season matches.

Toti Gomes appears to be the safest option after racking up the second most minutes for a centre-back after Kilman.

Wolves Attack

Wolves may have been disappointing in attack but they also failed to convince offensively, ranking (best):

  • 16th – Goals scored
  • 17th – Expected goals
  • 19th – Total attempts on goal
  • 18th – Total shots in the box
  • 15th – Big chances total
  • 14th – Total shots on target

Comparing the Wolves Attackers

When comparing the Wolves attackers we can see that central midfielder Joao Gomes (£5m) dominated in terms of gametime with 2656 minutes.

Not far behind Gomes was striker Matheus Cunha (£6.5m) who played 2453 minutes. The only other player who managed 2000+ minutes was midfielder Hwang-Hee Chan (6.5m) with 2140 minutes.

Injuries limited gametime for Cunha and Hwang but it also plagued midfielder Pedro Neto’ (£6.5m) season.

Cunha may have played well under 3000 minutes be he edged all of his attacking teammates with an impressive 19 attacking returns.

Hwang fell just four goal contributions short of Cunha but also played over 300 minutes less. His tally consisted of 12 goals and three assists.

Another player who impressed with little gametime was Pedro Neto who produced 13 attacking returns, just two short of Hwang and with around 600 minutes less gametime.

Conclusion

The standout attacking option could well be Hwang-Hee Chan. Hwang, although an in-game midfielder, can also play in a forward role. Hwang scored the joint most goals for his club last season and with 300 minutes less than Cunha.

Pedro Neto has also proven extremely effective. Neto played nearly 1000 minutes less than Cunha and picked up just six attacking returns less.

Cunha was also fantastic last season. Those looking for a cheap striker could easily opt for Cunha when his fixtures ease up.
