Who were the most reliable FPL players of 2022/23?

In this game, a successful squad mixes reliable FPL players with explosive, haul-worthy names. We get excited by the latter but which assets delivered on a more frequent basis?

Using the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area stats, it’s possible to discover which players collected the highest number of double-digit scores during the 2022/23 campaign – Erling Haaland (11), Mohamed Salah (10) and Martin Odegaard (9).

Additionally, with the official FPL website updated for the new season, Scout still lists each individual’s match-by-match information from before. This allows a look into who most regularly bagged at least five points for their owners. For those in head-to-head leagues, this is useful to know.

2022/23: THE RELIABLE FPL PLAYERS

Most occasions with 5+ points

This isn’t the same as searching for the most returns, as it’s still possible to finish on low points due to a red card, penalty miss or conceding many goals. For example, to FPL managers, there’s no use in Trent Alexander-Arnold assisting at Southampton when he then loses two points for conceding four times.

Therefore Harry Kane was the most reliable at delivering points. Incredibly, he only blanked in eight of his 38 matches. The flip side of that is a comparatively low seven double-digit scores but it was his best-ever FPL season, finishing just nine points behind Haaland.

Meanwhile, the appearances of Haaland, Salah, Kieran Trippier and Arsenal talents won’t shock anyone.

Points per start

Perhaps the lack of Odegaard, Kevin De Bruyne or Ivan Toney is a surprise but at least they all rank amongst the best for points per start. A minimum of 20 such starts is required here.

The phenomenal Haaland averages 8.1 points each time, which explains both his rise to a £14.0m starting price and the subsequent 85.8% of managers who have still selected him regardless.

In conclusion, the most reliable FPL players are the ones you’d expect. Premium players in each position, plus names like Ollie Watkins, Gabriel Martinelli and Ben White.

However great their hauls may feel, the starts of Phil Foden and Callum Wilson are too erratic to put faith into.
