Cheap players are vital to enable the pricier options within our Champions League squads. Not only are enablers essential but finding the best ones can be hugely rewarding. So, who were the best budget players in UCL Fantasy 22/23?
Rodri
Manchester City held plenty of interest for UCL Fantasy managers ahead of the season. But whilst many backed the likes of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne some may have included one of the best budget enablers in the game, Rodri.
The English side became Champions League winners this season and this gave Rodri plenty of opportunities to return points. The Spanish midfielder was priced at less than €6.1m in the game before the season started. He racked up a huge 64 points with the help of 68 ball recoveries, two goals and two player of the match awards.
Federico Dimarco
Inter also had a very successful campaign, making it all of the way to final. Although they played resiliently, Manchester City proved too strong. The Italian side were fantastic throughout and their defensive assets became some of the most reliable in the game.
One of their best assets was Federico Dimarco. The wing-back was priced at less than €4.6m in UCL Fantasy and proved to be one of the best cheap players in the game. Dimarco managed to match Rodri on points (64) and the six clean sheets, five assists and 32 ball recoveries hugely contributed towards that total.
Joao Mario
One team who held plenty of value for UCL Fantasy managers was Benfica. The Portuguese side had a very impressive group stage and that success was rewarded as they made it all of the way to the quarter finals.
Midfielder Joao Mario became a fantastic asset during the campaign. The winger notched up the same points as both Dimarco and Rodri (64) even though his side took part in three games less than Manchester City and Inter. Mario bagged two assists, six goals and 31 ball recoveries in just 865 minutes this season.
Mohammed Kudus
Ajax faced tough competition in the group stages against the likes of Liverpool, Napoli and Rangers which led to failing to progress further. Although that was the case, there assets became some of the best to own in the early stages.
Mohamed Kudus came in priced below €5.5m in the game. The Ghanian international bagged two assists, four goals and two player of the match awards. The midfielder secured a cool 46 points in just six matches whilst also averaging 7.6 points per game.
Other great enablers
- Andre Onana – The Inter goalkeeper collected 63 points this season with the help of eight clean sheets and 48 shots saved.
- Francesco Acerbi – Another Inter defender made the list after their impressive campaign. Acerbi hit 62 points after collecting seven clean sheets and 57 ball recoveries.
- Nicolas Otamendi – The Benfica centre-back hit one assist, three clean sheets and a jaw-dropping 71 ball recoveries which led him to banking 48 points during his campaign.
