Who should I buy for Gameweek 38?

As the Fantasy Premier League season comes to a conclusion, managers will be looking at some of the best players to bring in for the final day. For that reason, we answer one of the most important questions in the FPL community, who should I buy for Gameweek 38?

Finding the best players to buy in the last round of FPL can be absolutely crucial for gaining rank and an edge over our mini-league rivals. It can also help with the all-important captaincy decision. So, who should I buy in Gameweek 38?

Harry Kane

Tottenham face Leeds in Gameweek 38. They will have plenty of motivation as a win could see them claim a Europa Conference League slot for next season. Their opponent also play a significant factor contributing towards the appeal of the Tottenham assets. Amongst all teams this season Leeds rank the worst in the league for goals conceded (74) and big chances conceded (108).

Taking the above into account, Harry Kane (£11.4m) is one of the most appealing assets going into the final round. The penalty taker is the focal point to the Tottenham frontline and sits as the second highest scoring player in FPL (247 points). When compared to every other player in the league Kane also ranks first for attempts on goal (127).

Many managers would have sold Kane due to recent double Gameweeks so finding a way to bring him back into our teams could be difficult. However, with six returns in his last six matches and against the worst defence in the league, it could worth a hit to transfer him back in.

Roberto Firmino

Liverpool may be on the beach but they could have motivation to give the fans one final win after a disappointing campaign. The Reds sit fifth in the Premier League but they have been maintaining some great offensive data this season. In fact, when compared to all teams this season they rank first for attempts in the box (416) and second for big chances total (120).

Southampton lay ahead for Liverpool. The Saints awful campaign has seen them relegated to Championship football next season. In terms of their recent defensive performances they have also conceded three or more goals in four of their last six matches. This is a worrying sign for Southampton but a positive for the Liverpool attackers.

Liverpool could have extra motivation on the final day in that it’s Roberto Firmino’s (£8m) last game for the Reds. Because of this it is nearly guaranteed that he will feature. Firmino scored in his final game at Anfield last week meaning he claimed a seven-point return. It could be a special day for Firmino which could heavily benefit managers who bring him in. Because of this, he could be one of the best players to buy for Gameweek 38.

Eberechi Eze

Crystal Palace are effectively on the beach with little to play for but so are their opponents. The Eagles have had an eventful campaign. From struggling under manager Patrick Viera to thriving under former and re-appointed manager Roy Hodgson, the Eagles have been much more convincing as of late.

Nottingham Forest have survived relegation already so their motivation to get a result from the game is questionable. Defensively, Nottingham Forest have been unstable for large parts of the season. In fact, amongst all teams they rank joint fourth worst in the league for goals conceded (67), third worst for shots in the box conceded (377) and fourth worst for big chances conceded (91).

One of the most wanted midfielders going into Gameweek 38 is Eberechi Eze (£5.7m). The winger has been revitalised under the new coach and has become a key figure in the Crystal Palace offensive line. Not only does he lead his attacking teammates for non-penalty expected goal involvement in the last six Gameweeks (1.95) but he is also on penalty taking duty.

Who else could I buy for Gameweek 38?

There are plenty of great options we could go for that are not part of the template (the highest owned players). Some other players with good potential include:

  • Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins (£7.3m).
  • Newcastle striker Callum Wilson (£7.3m).
  • Everton midfielder Dwight McNeil (£5.2m).
  • Tottenham midfielder Son Heung-min (£11.5m).
  • Leicester midfielder James Maddison (£7.8m).
