Who is a wait and see in FPL?
The new Premier League season is approaching fast and many could be asking themselves the same question, who is a wait and see in FPL? We take a look through some of the players who could be worth monitoring early on.
Fantasy Premier League managers have around two weeks to get their squads ready for the start of the campaign. Picking the right players can be a difficult task and it can be easy to select players who are yet to prove themselves in terms of fitness, minutes and other factors. So, who is a wait and see in FPL?
Harry Kane
Harry Kane is one of the most consistent players in the game – he ranked as the second highest scoring player in FPL last season – scoring 30 goals and registering three assists. Although relentless as a fantasy asset there are several reasons to avoid the heavy hitter at the start of the campaign.
One of the biggest factors is that Kane could leave Spurs – he has been heavily linked with a move to Germany and with his contract expiring next summer his club may want to cash in. Another reason to avoid Kane early on is that there are simply lots of other options including the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8m), Erling Haaland (£14m) and Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) so it could be difficult to fit him in.
Liverpool attackers
Liverpool maintained some of the best attacking data in the league last season. Because of this many could be questioning why we should avoid their attacking options but there are very real factors we have to consider.
The Reds start the season with some potentially tough games against Chelsea (away), Newcastle (away) and Aston Villa (home). Not just that but most of the Liverpool attackers are rotations risks. Those players include midfielders Diogo Jota (£8m) and Luis Diaz (£7.5m) and forwards Darwin Nunez (£7.5m) and Cody Gakpo (£7.5m).
Until we see a pattern of game time with the players mentioned above, it could be worth avoiding them. That may be the case, but one player should not be considered as an avoid and that player is Mohamed Salah (£12.m). The Egyptian has proved relentlessly consistent in the Premier League over the last several seasons.
Newcastle assets
Newcastle were fantastic last season and finished fourth in the league, this meant they claimed European football for the first time in years. They also maintained some of the best defensive data when compared to every other team in the division.
The main problem with the Newcastle assets is that their early fixtures could be a major challenge – they face Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool, Brighton and Brentford in the first five matches. Not just that but there are also better options within their price bracket with better fixtures.
Other wait and see options
- Brighton attackers – Although the likes of midfielders Solly March (£6.5m) and Kaoru Mitoma (£6.5m) are more nailed in terms of minutes options like midfielder Julio Enciso (£5.5m) and striker Joao Pedro (£5.5m) are not. Because of this, both could be worth a wait and see.
- Phil Foden (£7.5m)- Manchester City regularly sustain elite offensive stats. However, they also rotate their attackers a lot which does not bode well for the minutes of Foden. For that reason, he could be one to monitor early one rather than selecting him.
