Who blanks and doubles in Gameweek 33?
Gameweek 32 was the first ‘normal’ Gameweek where no teams blanked or doubled since Gameweek 15. Gameweek 33 is now upon us and it is full of both blanks and doubles. We take a look at the fixtures for each team and what this means in FPL.
Teams that play two fixtures in a Gameweek are always prime targets for FPL managers. In Gameweek 33 the following teams play twice:
- Arsenal
- Brighton
- Burnley
- Leicester
- Manchester United
- Newcastle
- Southampton
The following clubs have no fixture scheduled:
- Aston Villa
- Leeds
- Wolves
What does this mean for FPL managers?
Double Gameweek teams
The teams who Double in Gameweek 33 should be key targets for FPL managers in terms of their transfers. However some of these teams make better targets than others.
Leicester play twice in Gameweek 33. However, they have the added benefit of also playing twice in Double Gameweeks 36 and 37 too. For managers who invest in Leicester City assets for Gameweek 33 they will also benefit from another potential 180 minutes football.
Both James Maddison and Harvey Barnes have excellent underlying stats and are in good form. Therefore both are great options for investment. Likewise with a run of good fixtures the defensive assets could also offer good potential, especially the likes of Kasper Schmeichel or budget enablers James Justin or Wesley Fofana. Managers should be mindful however of Leicesters involvement in the European Conference League. If they qualify for the next round of the competition they will play twice a week every week to the end of the season which could lead to some rotation.
Arsenal also benefit from multiple Double Gameweeks. The Gunners play twice in both Gameweek 33 and Gameweek 36.
The Gunners do not have the distraction of European football. They also have the added drive of trying to finish in the top four. This is positive for FPL managers and so the likes of Bakuyo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette offer good potential for managers.
Newcastle also have two home games in their Double Gameweek. On the back of the Double Gameweek they also play Norwich, therefore making them a team that are investable for more than just the double.
Blank Gameweek teams
Leeds players look to be easy sells heading into Blank Gameweek 33 due to the fixtures that they have after their missing week.
Leeds will have fixtures against in form Crystal Palace, Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea immediately after the blank. This difficult fixture run means it would be easy for managers to part with their Leeds assets. They could be replaced with players who play in Gameweek 33 and have good surrounding fixtures, such as Leicester and Newcastle assets.
Wolves and Aston Villa offer a more difficult decision for FPL managers.
Villa have back to back Double Gameweeks in Gameweeks 36 and 37. As well as an attractive fixture against Norwich in Gameweek 35.
For managers who are not using their Bench Boost in Gameweek 33 holding on to the likes of Cash, Coutinho or Ramsey seems sensible. If managers are planning to play the Bench Boost chip then the Villans will need to be sold, with a strategy for getting them back ahead of Gameweek 35.
Wolves do not currently have a Double Gameweek, however they do still have a fixture to be rearranged.
Wolves have two attractive fixtures in Gameweeks 34, 35 and 37. Therefore, if managers have a Wolves defender they could be benched in Gameweek 33. This would allow them to come back in to the following Gameweeks. However with cheap in form options such as Schar at doubling teams managers may want to part with their Wolves assets.
Single Gameweek teams
However, FPL managers shouldn’t purely focus on the Double Gameweek teams. There are a number of teams who only play once with good fixtures.
The likes of Brentford, West Ham, Man City and Sours all have highly investable fixtures. These teams should not be overlooked ahead of Gameweek 33.
