Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 17?

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 17.

Recent FPL goals

Some attackers are in great form over their last four matches:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over their last four league appearances:

  • No more than one goal
  • At least nine shots
  • An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.00
  • An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.20

On top was Gabriel Jesus but, with injury keeping him out for a while, isn’t worth including in this list. Similarly, Cristiano Ronaldo has left Manchester United.

Now back from a three-match suspension, Diego Costa has had many attempts to score but is still goalless for Wolves. Perhaps things will change under new boss Julen Lopetegui, although tough fixtures and a fit Raul Jimenez don’t bode well.

Southampton also have new management but Che Adams should stay in Nathan Jones’ line-up. We’ve already seen one match under him, where Adams started and scored at Liverpool. Of those without an upcoming Double Gameweek, the Saints probably have the league’s best fixture run, so Adams would be an interesting differential.

Elsewhere, Wilfried Zaha owners are likely using this period of unlimited free transfers to get rid, such has been the frustration. Son Heung-min‘s form has declined to a shocking level, considering he won last season’s Golden Boot, but he’s still having plenty of shots and creative moments.

Brazilian pair Antony and Lucas Paqueta also feature. The West Ham midfielder isn’t underachieving, as three goal involvements have led to an xGI of 1.53. Antony’s place looks fairly secure for Man United’s strong early fixtures, with team-mate Marcus Rashford a good option should the Red Devils decide not to purchase a Ronaldo replacement in January.
