Which FPL players are going to AFCON and Asia Cup?

In this article we take look through the FPL players taking part in AFCON and the Asia Cup. Both international tournaments have come at an awkward time for English clubs as they recover after an intense winter period.

Taking a look through the FPL players going to AFCON and Asia Cup could be absolutely crucial to navigating the weeks ahead. With this information we can plan our transfers, captaincy and more so when the time comes we are fully prepared.

When does AFCON and Asia Cup start and finish?

The African Cup of Nations starts January 13th and concludes on February 11th. The Asia Cup starts January 12th and concludes February 10th.

How many Gameweeks could players miss?

Obviously different players who play for different nations will come back earlier or until the tournaments finish depending on performance. However due to the fact there is just two Gameweeks in January, it is likely most players will miss just two Gameweeks (Gameweeks 21 & 22). But, for teams that progress further, it could even be three or even four.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah is one of the biggest names leaving with his National side. Salah will join Egypt in their quest to claim the African Cup of Nations. They face the likes of Mozambique, Ghana and Cape Verde in the Group Stages and are clear favourites to win the group. Egypt’ progression deep into the tournament is likely due to the strength of their squad so managers may want to make Salah a priority sell.

Son Heung-Min

Another big name to depart with their national side is Tottenham midfielder Son Heung-Min. He will be joining South Korea as he tries to battle it out for the Asia Cup. South Korea have Group Stage meetings with Bahrain, Jordan and Malaysia and with that in mind are strong favourites to progress into the next round. This means Son is likely to miss at least two Gameweeks.

  • Raya Ait Nouri (Wolves)
